Has anyone driven their sport cups in the rain? Would you recommend a long road trip through wet weather? We are looking at car transport tomorrow but the east coast is getting slammed? Thanks.

 

I've used them in the rain several times - no big deal as long as you avoid big puddles of standing water and aren't try to get much lateral acceleration in the corners. If you're careful, I think you'll be fine (assuming you still have a decent amount of tread left)

I bought my car in Oregon and immediately drove from Eugene to San Fran in a heavy down pour. The car handled very well at high speeds 75+.
But the car only had 830 miles on the tires.

Now the car is here in Hawaii and once the tires are heated up you are good.

P-cars are made for all types of conditions including rain.

In December, the first portion of my trip from DC to Florida was a nightmare. I was in my 996-3 on "real" MPSCs with very low tread. It rained for 200 miles, sometimes very heavily, and of course it was at night. The key was to be willing to be passed by almost everybody else, and not wonder what they were thinking about the idiot in the fancy sports car doing 40 mph. The MPSCs on the 997 are much better in the rain, provided you have a good amount of tread left. I had a very narrow window for that trip (that's my excuse). But I won't do it again under the same circumstances. Be safe!

 

drove my RS in the rain today and had no problems!!!

 

I drove my car at Willow springs in Med-heavy steady rain. Everyone else left the track, but I figured, Track to myself for 30 Minutes I am goin' do this. My times by the end were off from my dry times by about 12 seconds, 1:38s vs 1:50. I enjoyed it very much and I was very surprised how well the sport cups held up. Traction control off.

Now I did not have to deal with other nutty drivers on public roads with oil and other surprises. Use caution and common sense you should be fine. Remember half the cars out there are running on tires that are close to bald. Your tires and talent are probably less of an issue than getting hit by some one else.

They are fine in the rain. Just do not be aggressive.

 

I drove my brand new RS between 60 and 125mph in the rain (about 900 miles) on brand new tires...if your tread is less than 50% then it will be a bit hairy and definitely not worth doing over the speed limit if standing water is a risk.

just don't try to be schumi and you should be okay.

 

Thanks everyone. The person who bought my car will be picking it up this am. My concern was for him, having not drove the car or being familiar with the MSPCs. I will give him the run down. Im sure he will be ok.

The PZero Corsas are great in the rain. How does the factory decide which cars get Pirelli and which get Michelin?

 

all the RS come with MSPC as far as I know. My 08 gt3 came with corsas which were awesome in the rain and snow (well not awesome but adequate).

 

my '07 came with the corsas too ... which bummed me out till I got to the ring and it was raining ... then I was pretty happy with them (TC-on)

 

There's an unsold 2008 RS on my dealer's floor right now with Corsas. I haven't noticed any pattern to which cars get which tires. Maybe it's just random?
