Default Open Trailex for GT3

I'm trying to decide what is the right Trailex open trailer for my 08 GT3. Ken at Trailex said the CT-7541 (75" wide x 153" long plus the front triangle) is most popular with 911 guys but after measuring the car (71" wide x 176" long) it seems too little. The car is wide in front of the wheels and I think it will hit the optional air dam on the trailer. Does anyone have experience with this combination? The next size up, CT-8045, (80-1/4" x 176" long plus the front triangle) is obviously plenty big. The bigger model also has 11' vs. 9' ramps which must be a plus with the low chin spoiler. Also, does anybody have any experience with Trailex's new line of welded trailers?
thanks

We sell them. CT-7541 works fine although the car is very low and needs a transition to get onto the ramps. A couple 2x10s work.

Send Carl @ Trailex a PM or send him an e-mail. He'll answer whatever question you may have.

Go with the 7541, works great with our RS, just use long slats to keep front lip clear. Carl @ Trailex is easy to work with, higly recommend them.....no affiliation.

What is Carl's email address?

As a side question, I am picking up a new racecar in Chicago and I need to trailer it to Charlotte, NC. I can't seem to find anyone who will rent a vehicle that allows towing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just bought an 8045 with a full bottom. Extra space is nice and it will also carry my Kubota. Carl is easy to deal with.

Problem with the 8045 for some folks (me included) is the additional length does not fit in the storage area dedicated for the trailer. Good point on the extra length allowing you to take that extra "getting around toy" to the track!

Default trailer

just pull off front splitter, no need for addition ramps, pieces of wood, or whatever.

Trailex is the best. They are assembled in Boardman, Ohio not far from me. Carl and Ken are real car guys. They will give you input based on hundreds (maybe thousands) of real world deliveries to Porsche-philes. Trust their advice. I have an enclosed Trailex for the past 3 years. Not cheap but worth every penny.

FYI- I don't know if you asked but discounts are available for PCA members.

Not to get off topic or hijack your thread, but I feel it's easier in here then starting a new one. Thanks for the info on the trailer, I have never trailered any of my Porsche's to events when I went, but have an upcoming event at VIR and will need a trailer.

I was thinking of renting one, does anyone know where to rent one that will accomodate my GT2? Uhaul has one that looks pretty decent and newer ones for cars with wider wheelbases, and in the Zone 2 event thread LVDELL said he see's guy's trailer their cars in on UHAUL open trailers all of the time, just not sure which to use!

I own this trailer and I have trailered my 997 C4S on it. This is wider than your GT3 and fits nicely. i also use it for my 996 track vehicle. It is the perfect size for a Carrera. I have the tire rack but not the front air dam peice. I know people who do have the air dam and there is still plenty of room.

I looked into renting a trailer prior to a 6 week cross country tour with my Speedster a few years back. The economics worked better by *buying* a steel trailer ($3K range). I sold the trailer one year later and lost approx. $800 net. Regarding my next trailer, I am personally debating going with Trailex Alum (luxury) versus steal again (good enough). I really like the weight of aluminum, though most SUVs today can pull 7700lbs so steel is less of a hinderance....

My $0.02,
-Blake

You'll love the Trailex if you get one.

Glad to hear the 7541 works with your RS. Is the car completely on the trailer, front and rear without hanging over? I want to make sure the car will fit in front with the air dam?

thanks!
