I would say 10 to 20 miles is normal and I think we had 12 on ours when we did the European delivery.
Every car that comes off the line is test driven on the street by senior line workers who have a check list to go through before the car is finally released. We were told it is sort of a reward for those workers that have performed very well over the preceeding year. The position is temporary lasting abouot one month if memory serves me correctly. There were a couple of cars that left the factory ahead of us and each car had 2 workers in them.

Wow, thanks for all your replies. i will get back to them immediately and tell them that 40-60km is unacceptable. eclou, i was going to pick it up in germany but driving back the 1000km on motorways in crappy weather just didn't excite me enough. I have tried aquaplaning in my 993 gt2 with cup tires and it still sends shivers down my spine. I want to keep the 997 gt2 for more than a day!

If you think they drove it, and are worried about how they drove it, then demand an ECU dump before you take delivery. If you see any over-revs, or high revs before reaching operating temps, then tell them to order another one and shove the one they have up their ***.
Sorry, but I know that some dealers have guys who intentionally redline the cars on PDI's, there is no reason for that, even if they wait for full operating temp. They are just dicks.
My GT3 had 10.2 miles on the clock.
