997 GT3 Wheels, BBS E88s or HRE P40s.
I'm getting new wheels and I have narrowed my choices down to the HRE P40 and the BBS E88 racings wheels.
I know one is monobloc and one is three piece.
I would like the learned opinion of Rennlisters with respect to pros and cons of each wheel.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

Hey Mike, I really like the monoblok series but it depends on your intent... For track stuff, I'd maybe suggest going to a Competition series which can be custom built/specced especially for a GT2. They're also a LOT lighter.

The BBS wheels have been highly recommended to me and I think I'm going to invest in a set very soon. I'm curious. Do you know the weight difference between the HREs and the BBSs?

IMO the e88's are bar none the sickest wheels out there, but they tend to leak air. I agree with Shark on this one. Go with a Comp series HRE. C21's are next in line behind the e88 for me.

BBS came out and were adament that we all stop selling them for that exact reason There are ways to seal them much better but you shouldn't have to

For me the advantage of a 3-piece is that if you mess a wheel up (as I did years ago at Buttonwillow) you can usually get them repaired/replaced (this was the case with the Fikse FM-10's I had).
I personally plan to get a set of Champion RG5's this time around though.

with 3 sets or more wheel, i begin to see the advantage of 3 pcs wheels. if you only have one set (not inc oem), one piece is the way to go.
3 pcs wheels NEED maintenance. when you ship your wheel to be maintained, it will be gone 2-3 weeks. i cannot stop driving for that 2-3 weeks. YMMV.
i thing i hear ALL the time is you can replace the halves of the 3 pces. ahahah. yes, if you run a big team, yes. if you dont, you will be way down the list to get yours replaced. how many of you had BBS motrosport replace the halves of your E88 and how many weeks or is it years did it took?
also, must be me. when i have gone off bad enough to bend rims, i bend the halves and the center, i have never had one instance where i could have gotten away with just replacing the halves. if the halves are bent slightly, just mount new tires and keep going. if it's mangled changes ar eyou need new centers as well. one center + one halve (inner or outter) is about same price as most one pcs wheels (not the champion stuff. they are nice and $$$).
3 or 1 pc are all good, just make sure the advantage is truly an advantage, not an imaginary one. and i KNOW, porschephiles often imagine things.

When I shipped my bent Fikse FM-10 back for rim replacement, it took 5 business days and cost $150

each time was about 600/wheel after shipping and always took 2-3 weeks. so in the interrim i bought and received JB and CCW before my fikse's came back.
though kudo's to mr. fikse. after he and i chatted, he realized there were some "mix up" and took care of it. when their one piece forging comes in 18" i will be back.
