i think it's gonna have a flat 12 engine, and an automatic 8 speed transmission, a glass moonroof, and an 800 watt stereo system.
-speculation but nothing concrete.

I think there will be- the way ALMS is going. I think a 3.8L direct injection is coming to slow down
Team Ferrari. I dont think Porsche is close enough to the 998 to not have a 997 GT3 MkII.
How do I know? I dont pure conjecture on my part

Don't forget the "Flex Capacitor" that will run lap times in the future before they actually happen so you can make improvements on the mistakes you will be making...

So true..cosmetically the "updates" are relatively minor (if what we've seen in the spy pics holds up). I had always "heard" (whatever that means ) that the 997 was/is a stop-gap before the 998 arrives. Maybe some things have changed (read: Forced) Porsche to make changes of their own.
I do believe that the "MkII" was close to completion when the "MkI" came to market, such is the auto industry (just like I think the 998 will begin testing, if not already, shortly). But maybe (read: I don't know ****) DSG/PDK, DFI and such were supposed to be for the 998 if not for pressure from competitors (both street & track), emissions/fuel consumption (needing better MPG/greener cars) and new laws.
Because we all know consumer sentiment has little to nothing to do with it, if it does then maybe just maybe the next GT3/RS will be lighter, much lighter!

oh man MJ you went and got all serious on me. kinda hoping we could keep that going with a diesel or hybrid joke.
you're probably right though...I just hope that porsche gets on board with paddles instead of stupid tiptronic buttons on the front of the wheel. maybe make them a no-cost option in carbon fiber. Hopefully if/when they do another RS you can do carbon interior shell doors like on the 360 Stradale. Or lightweight plastic- wait nevermind carbon-fiber is pretty much plastic anyway, and doesn't really start drastically saving weight until you're replacing metal with carbon.
direct injection- absolutely. I love it in my audi.
other than that, there's no replacement for displacement. 3.8L here we go!

OG, I think you're spot on with the ALMS impact. Clearly, Porsche is going to need more HP/TQ to do anything against Ferrari this year. 3.8 liters and Direct Injection should be a good start.
I also think that we can't underestimate Porsche's intent to help silence the growing enviromentalist clamor by quickly building a "cleaner" engine. Again Direct Injection will play a big role in that.
If the past is any indication (since most people think the 996 Mk II was a fair improvement over the Mk I), I'm really looking foward to a Mk II 997 and plan to be at the front of that line if possible.

seefouress- according to the window sticker on my gt3- it's already either an ultra low emissions vehicle or a low emission vehicle (ulev or lev).
the gt3 also gets much better highway mileage than my direct injected rs4- but that might be due to aero stuff as well. RS4 absolutely can't do better than 21mpg and that's on an entire tank of gas doing only highway miles.

If you are talking about MKII RS, it is a different story.
There really is no reason to have any mechanical changes to the regular GT3; they have their own series.
P.S. If you are going to wish for a MKII GT3, why not wish for the sunroof delete option and custom colors?

Here's the thing we could get more HP but it will most likely be with more weight...if they could only make them lighter and more HP then we're talking!
3000 lbs. and 450 bhp's...that would be my choice.

Chris Porsche already broke the 3.8l barrier with the 911S. So I think it will be easy for them to
do it with the MKII. I think they are saving the 4.0L for the 998-flat 8? or flat6?
