Default Drove a Z06 Today

I drove an 07 Z06 today for a test drive. Amazing power, but really felt weird. I guess I'm spoiled by the P cars now. The front engine made it feel very heavy, even though it isn't...brakes left a lot to be desired and suspension just didn't feel tight and balanced. Kindof felt like I wasn't getting a lot of feedback. Gotta give it the thumbs up on the power though...it was very fast! Probably just need to learn to drive it.

I have nothing but respect for the corvette. like Leno says, if u want a nice interior, buy a living room set. i think the new ZR1 will be awesome (620bhp, 3300 lbs i hear). but not so sure how the 15+ inch ceramic brakes will hold up for track duty.
and i'm pretty sure once the "market adjustment" is made to the msrp u'll be looking at $180k +! anyone put down a deposit yet or are they taking them yet?

corvetteracing has been running carbon brakes in the Cr6 and seem to be working.

I think that carbon racing brakes are different to carbon ceramic. The size of the ZR1 brakes is the same as on the 430 Scuderia, from the looks of the rotors it is the same part. Note that they look different to our PCCB made by SGL. I think that Ferrari and ZR1 brakes are made by Brembo.

...This 500 plus hp Z06 racecar hammers me on the straights but I catch up in the brake zones. It really has nothing for me in the corners. This pic is turn 1 at VIR...he blasts me down the front straight but I brake deeper and pass him going into two.

We run together all the time, Great Guy!...I call him "drag racer" and it makes him crazy...he says my little GT3 is anemic! This guy bleeds CORVETTE...I'm going to get a Parachute from a pro stock car and put it on the back of his car then take some pictures...he's going to be so pissed!

I highly doubt that it will be that high. In the beginning you will see the mark-ups, but not that much. Remember, it is still a Chevorlet Corvette. I am not putting it down; I really like it and respect it. But for $180K it will not sell except for a few die hard Corvette enthusiasts with a lot of money.

If it comes in at $100K then I can see mark ups of $40K at the most. Wait, let me restate that. I can see marked up cars selling for $40K over at the most. You might see some listed for $200K; nothing surprises me anymore these days. But they will not be getting those prices.

Only way they could is if it will be very limited production and only for one year.

The C4 ZR1 had an MSRP of about $60k if I remember right, and some of the first ones were going for $90K.

i have great respect for Z06. but it does need some work.
the rear is on leaf springs!
like rog said, the brakes, or lack there of.... need help.

get some brembo/ap on it and convert to jrz/moton/penske/ohlin coil overs, and it will give us a tough time. so i would say about $15k (suspension/brake system, with labor/tax) and $75k (for new car), it's not much cheaper than 997gt3.

You can get a used C5 Z06 for $30k (or a little less). Even at $15k in upgrades, you're at $45k. A used 996 GT3 is still over $80k. *shrug* The GT3 is gonna be my choice, but I can afford it. If you're on a tighter budget, the Corvette is still the best bang for the buck...

One of my friends just bought a Z06 and had it modified by Katech in Michigan, the same company that prepares the C6R cars for Lemans. He put in about $75K into the car including engine, suspension, brakes, CF hood, Forgelines, aero, etc. The car is by far the fastest I've been in. He plans to track it this spring.

I cannot imagine dumping $75k in mods on a $70k car that will be worth $30k in 3 years. Then again, motorsports is not about fiscal responsibility.

No no no! Sorry, I just meant if I had to choose between the GT3 and the Vette I'd choose GT3, but I can totally understand someone going for the Vette. Fortunately I have what I feel is a better car than either one...

I drove a non Z06 Vette last month. Although no doubt very fast, it just wasn't very satisfying. Although the steering "feel" has been improved, it's still pretty numb compared to the gt3 (or turbo, or boxster, or S2000, or miata, or etc, etc.) I enjoy feeling all the subtle messages the GT3RS gives me about what the front tires are doing. No doubt great value, but not that involving to drive IMHO.
