curious what people that have gt3 or gt3rs likeas a daily driver. i have about 8,000 miles on my 2007 audi s8 and was thinking of changing.

Do you thinik your S8 is over the hill?

 

The car is fine as a daily driver, I 'm doing it right now. My AWE exhaust system is really too loud but the stock system is great. I added a lot of camber for the track but the street alignment is fine for most purposes. I will use up my tires too fast but that is my choice. I bought a set of rims and snows for the winter months - they handle like crap but what did I expect from snows?

 

Why not... The F car boy's try to drive there Italian stuff every day... If they can do it so can you.

For real... The car is soo special. Why not drive it every day. I have no problem with it. It is my summer daily for chores around town, weekend trips and a occasional trip to Taco Bell.

Drive it every day, you only live once.

when I look back I don't want to think I spent my formative years driving a ford focus- I'd rather be in stop and go with a rad car like the gt3. now whenever mine comes back from europe I'll be driving it every day. Although coming from the S8- v10 450+hp, right? you're on a high level already. I really like all the 997's- you really can't go wrong. but my advice would be to spend on the model not on the options if that makes any sense.

S8 is a great car too! I've got an RS4 and really love the audi feel.

 

dont get me wrong the s8 is a great car. it's just a little too big for my needs. the best daily driver I had was the 2003 rs6, that car was perfect !

 

If you do something about the shocks on the pre-08 cars, I really like a Subaru STi as a dd. Doesn't feel huge, but is peppy. The AWD system is awesome in crappy weather and if you decide you do want to play with mods, there are plenty. It actually sounds like the 08 STi will be even better...I actually like the wagons better for dd duty.

I suppose if you just want a better STi (and don't mind paying for it), the Audis are pretty much that. Personally, I like the fact that the Subarus are somewhat disposable for that kind of need, especially if I lived where road salt and bad weather was even more of an issue (like you NYC boys). The stupid things actually seem to hold their value well, especially if you are sane with your mods.

If I had a GT3 I would use it as a DD in a heartbeat. Life is short, have fun.

 

I use a 5 series BMW. As much as I'd like to use the GT3 as a daily driver, our season is too short, and sometimes I need more room.

 

I don't know how driving weather is in your area but in places where snow is not a factor- I'd DD my GT3 for sure. I just like the RS4 for picking up babes from the airport or for more than one at a time. Lol

 

I used my GT3 as a daily driver for 3 years. I could not bring myself to drive the other car. My wife hates it so if she is with me we take the SL or if we have the dogs the GL

 

Audi S4 cab. Excellent traction in snow with winter tires (a big factor in Chicago). Plus the cab top makes for nice drives when the weather cooperates. back seat is a bit small for long drives with four adults but s fine for kids and teenagers. The 340hp v8 has enough power to keep up with anything but exotics too.

 

My daily is 2007 M6. It's a great GT cruiser for my commute but absolutely terrible mileage. GT3 is REALLY bad in the wet with PSC tires. Also, having the extreme good fortune of owning several very nice cars, I find that the "super" cars are more fun when driven recreationally rather than as DD.

 

If my commute was shorter, and I didn't have to deal with 8 months of winter in the mountains, I would make the GT3 a DD in a heartbeat. If money were no object, I'd use my 3 as a DD, and have a Cup as the track car. That would be the ideal scenario.

For now, I have a BMW X3 for the winter months and a Mini Cooper S for the summer months. If my plans work out, the next set of cars will be a Range Rover for the winter and a C4 Coupe for the summer. Donnie makes a good point about the STI, however. My wife and I view our Mini like its a disposable camera. It's nice having a little car that is fun, yet gets great gas mileage....

I would say that using the GT3 daily depends almost purely on road quality.

Wet roads are no problem, only standing water is a problem. Actually, the PSC tire is better on a wet surface than a PS tire. This coming directly from Röhrl, but I have the same feeling.
