I think it is.

It's got the looks, the handling, the power, and a market premium...and a car that can be driven anywhere (street or track), anytime, and under any condition (rain, shine or snow). Now the F-cars, CGT, Bugatti, Mclaren, etc can't lay claim to all of these driving attributes!

Personally, I don't think anything 911-based can be considered an exotic or "Super-Car". Regardles of its performance potential or racing pedigree, it's just too familiar; to the average person the RS is a 911 with loud paint and obnoxious spoilers. Besides, if the GT3RS is a "Super-Car", what do you call the likes of the Carrera GT, Veyron, Murcielago, Koniggsegg, Zonda, and other members of the 200mph+ club?

All of Porsche's GT cars are supercars IMO (CGT, GT2, GT3, GT3RS)... They are all very exclusive, highly desirable, amazing performers, well-engineered, and have a rock-solid heritage.

After all is said and done, they're just 911s which will be superceded in a few short months. Great cars, but there's nothing super about them (well, apart from the hype ).

Can't beat the heritage, owners, auto critcs agree you will have to look long and hard for negitive press on the GT3 and it's stunning in white.

The RS in Orange is a wild lookng car retro and better in person.

Sure the others are maybe more exotic, in regard to prodution numbers, higher HP etc. they are also for more of the gold chain/poseur crowd. people that subscribe to the GT cars buy them strictly to drive.

Drive up to any casino watch a rap video, and your bound to see a pearl orange green or yellow lambo by the curb.

by the curb- right where the lambo belongs

I think it's hard to call it a super car because it's not as exoticaly (sure that's a word now) constructed as an enzo(drool), f40(drool), cgt(more drool), buggi(eh), kone2w3323rweaeeg(medium drool), etc. unless you want to call them mega cars.

although wheel for wheel it probably sees more racing/track action than all of those other cars put together, so it's at the least a super-hero.

CJ, i think those would be considered "hyper cars" or is that term no longer mainstream term anymore?

A very good, but highly subjective question....

To my 10 year old neighbor, my 996 GT3 is a supercar. To the guy across the street with a modded Evo STi, it is a car that not especially super. To my wife, it is a waster of money. But to me, it is on the short list of $100K+ cars that I feel capable of taking to the race track and having a worry free experience.

And that is my 996 GT3 - so an RS is as "super" as it gets for street cars!

I agree completely. Supercar to me means limited production, limited availability, high desirability, exotic styling, and genre-defying performance. A 911 variant may fill some - or all - of these categories for you, but they really don't for me. The only 911s that come close by my defintion are 959 and 997GT2.

Porsche's only really built one supercar, CGT. Maybe 911 GT1. Ferrari has built several - F40, F50 (really underrated, I think), Enzo. Lamborghinis don't really appeal to me. It's a rarefied place, supercardom.
