Default End of break-in & oil change

My GT3 is approaching the end of 2000mil break-in period. Should I do an oil & filter change, which is not in Porsche's maintenance guideline, or to wait till the 1st Minor Maintenance at 12,000mil?

Also, anyone who did DIY oil change, can a top-sider oil extractor be used? According to the diagram (posted by NSXTC), it looks do-able...? Thanks!

change it if it makes you feel better. i changed it at 2k miles. Its cheap. I think you should drain it from the two drain plugs. one on the oil pan and the other on the expansion tank to make sure you get every drop out vs. a top side oil sucker.

I would do it. I only have 1250 miles on the clock so far and changed the oil/filter at 1200. Call me superstitious but I've always done an oil/filter change on new vehicles at approx. 1000 miles.

I've never used an oil extractor so can't opine on it. I have an old school drive over "oil pit" in my garage so there's no need.

Mooty, how often do you change the oil considering your track time?

mia comes to garage. some times she's quite some times she makes lots of trouble. all i have to do is fire up the motor or whip out my 18volt impact wrench then she quiets down and watch me do oil change.

she helps broom the garage floor, though does a poor job. but she's 3. so your son needs more training since he's only 2 ;-)

excellent. I got him on detail duty for the areas of the car 2ft and below. he does an okay job but uses way too much water and can leave water marks. he thinks he is using detail spray but its water just in case he decides to take a drink or squirt his eye. its really cute watching him detail his tricycle. the engine revving and the impact wrench don't work. he just giggles.

I thought an oil extractor wouldn't work on 911's?

Drain from just the expansion tank alone is not enough? I did not see any 'oil pan' but a horizontal hex plug at the bottom of the engine. Is that the 'oil pan' plug?

About how much does a dealer usually charge for just the oil change? Thanks.

I had the opportunity of building a vacation home for the head of one of the top R&D oil research firms a couple of years ago and while he was not a Porsche guy obviously knew alot about all sorts of engines.

His advise was to change the oil & filter of any new vehicles between one and two thousand miles. As mentioned above. It's cheap and a great way to get rid of the microscopic (and not so small ) particles that are in virtually all engines.

My kids are too big to convince them to detail my cars but they do their own so it's all good

there's a plug on the driver side of the split engine case. you NEED to drain the case also, you get AT LEAST 2.5 qt of oil from there.. i mean at least. i am sure it's more b/c it's almost always all over my floor.

I think the oil extractor he's refering to is the dipstick (which I'm still waiting for the parts). There's a DIY on changing a dry sump 996 GT3 (same procedure as the 997 GT3) on renspeed. I have the bookmark on my home computer and will post later.
