I agree it seems like a lot of performance for the money. From the information so far it seems a little bit heavy.

sure, as a beater daily-driver street car, why not. It'll be loads of fun on the street, lots of computer doo-dads to entertain you. The weight shouldn't really be an issue when you're driving around at 8/10 max. And if you get tired of it after a few months, I'm sure you'll be able to flip it for near what you paid.

On the downside, you'll get lots of perhaps unwanted attention.

I'm looking to replace my S2000 with one. I think the Nissan dealers are going to jack up the asking price $20K plus. I have read the US is only getting 1500 cars/yr. That won't come close to demand.

Yeap, I've been thinking about this one too. According to few forums, markups is anywhere between $20k to $60k! So I called few local dealers and they want $30k & $40k... One even told me latest bid is $40k and they are only getting one for the whole year. As nice as it is, it is in GT3 (non RS) price range.

Btw, I had a 350Z when it first came out, nkhalidi is correct, even with the 350Z I had lots of unwanted attention. It was grey & 100% stock but everytime I drove it, some fast & furious guy wanted to race me. I think that was one of the biggest reason I sold it, it was just too annoying...

I too want to see what the hype is all about. Maybe strip it bare and track it to death.

Saw it in the flesh and sat in it at the LA Autoshow. Didn't want to like it, but its dramatic in person. Looks like nothing else out there, in a very good way. Mean and purposeful.

If the numbers don't lie, which I suspect they won't, its awesome performance for the money. Seat was one of the best I've sat in, in a factory car and it just felt right. Expected skimping on the interior materials but not so.

I think there will be a lot of pent up demand for them initially but that will die down fairly quickly. I suspect that non-enthusiasts cross shopping it against a Carrera will take the Porsche in the end--will be tough to justify a Nissan vs. Porsche on the "status" side. I'd take one though--at least at sticker.

Wow, I didn't think they would let you sit in it, I would've gone if I knew! So how's the interior quality wise comparing it to Porsche or Audi? The Z I had was below expectation, even for Japanese.

Sound great but I can't get very excited about the appearance of the thing.

I've been considering a GT3 for a while. I'm first on the list at my local dealer for a GT-R at MSRP. Orders don't commence until 1/1/08. Should be an interesting car, considering the DSG tranny and all wheel drive (especially for snow). Hopefully, a V-Spec will come out a year later, which will provide even more performance. Seems like an interesting value proposition! Time will tell, stay tuned; film at 11!

Pretty boy racer in the flesh. I'd get a Z06 instead for a street car, service available anywhere and discounts off MSRP rather than markups.

After the guy gave a presentation on the Skyline at the L.A. Auto Show, I shouted if he could start up the engine, and of course he shook his head. Then I shouted, 'Could you at least open the hood so we can see the engine?' And he said no. It's very lucky to get a chance to even sit in it!

More pics of Skyline:

I think these are 20" wheels...

http://www.sportauto-online.de/test_...8540_14469.hbs

Sportauto with the famous driver Horst has driven the new Skyline on N-ring.

*7:50 --- 157.787 km/h -- Nissan GT-R, 480 PS/1750 kg, Horst von Saurma, partially wet track (sport auto 12/07)*

Horst von Saurma, chief editor of sport auto magazine, completed about 100 kms with the new Nissan GT-R at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Best time he achieved was a 7:50 on a partiallly wet track especially at one of the key passages so called Kesselchen.

With all the electronic aids the handling is absolutely perfect, the driver doens´t feel how the drive-by-wire system really works as the GT-R stay on track like on rails, always has grip, doesn´t lose control, higly computerized and a perfect racer for the street. A time less than 7:40 is pretty much optimistic, 7:50 shows the true potential of the car. And when the price stays at the announced level, it is a real bargain.
