Since I have a completely different need for DSG (PDK) than all of you this sounds like my dreams will be answered! Now I just gotta sell my boat!

Mike,
Just what you've been waiting to hear You'll have so much more control over the tranny than the tip. New Year's resolution idea: Simplify life (boat, etc.) and prepare for a PDK 997S (or are we talking GT3 now?).

Default Looking at the North American...

GT3 History

2004 - bulk of production
2005 - a few left over orders

2006 - no cars

2007 - bulk of production
2008 - a few left over orders

2008 - no cars (introduction of new 911 and "s" variants - launching August/Sept.)

2010 - bulk of production (my guess)
2011 - a few left over orders (my guess)

I like the idea of PDK for the sports cars but after driving the direct injection Cayenne S with 45hp (it's not really noticeable), I'm not expecting much in the performance arena.

Hey Ron, happy holidays! Yes I am seriously excited when these type of news leaks about DSG/PDK come out. While I have not found the limits of the car at the track and I just find my personal limits and work on those I do find the limits of shifting the Tiptronic in manual mode at the track. I get very frustrated with Tiptronic at the track. Not sure if I would get a GT3 or stick with a 997S. The boyracer in me says get the GT3 but I have not mastered the S yet!
The boat which is a 2006 38TE Fountain with triple 275 Merc Verado's is going to a broker to sell and I will get a smaller less expensive boat.

Ooh, i just hope its in proper paddle configuration as in right paddle up and left pedal down instead of the current tiptronic config. If the DSG is like any other advanced auto system with automatic blipping for downshifts and what not, this should make the GT3 a faster demon on the track.

GGo, I do hope the get the paddle configuration correct but also I hope the have the DSG/PDK rev match on down shifts like the Ferrari F1 and Audi does.

they could still use the Tip style toggles on the steering wheel or they could reverse the paddles! PLEASE Porsche no more Tip style toggels on the wheel!

Also I wonder if they do paddles if the paddles will move with the wheel like a F1 car or stay stationary?

Dude, what have happened to the year 2009? Is that a "leap" year; literally?

Sorry, my comment was regarding the rev matching on downshifts. I should have made that clear in my post.

DFI will be very noticeable in the GT3. You possibly won't be able to feel the extra hp by the seat of the pants, but you definitely will feel the extra torque. Unlike increasing hp with higher rpm, DFI increases power by increasing torque. It's the same as enlarging the engine - more torque (thus power) right across the rev range. It will feel as if the engine is a 3.9 or 4.0 liter.

The Cayenne may be too heavy to clearly feel the benefits of DFI. But it will be quite noticeable on the GT3. And it will use less fuel too.

It will definitely have more power & torque and it will also get better highway fuel mileage, but I don't think it will get better fuel mileage while flogging it on the track

My inside source says that this will happen for the Porsche cars, and in turn the GT3, but it will not be any time soon for the GT3. He says that is abot 3 years out.

I don't think he has ever lead me wrong

That would suck. Without any insider info, I remain hopeful that Porsche is too greedy to wait that long. They created a feeding frenzy with the latest RS and I can't imagine them waiting 3 years to reap further sales benefits. OTOH, one can't help wonder just how much profit they're actually making on US sales at the current forex rate.

Great news, can't wait for the MY09 GT3, probably still want a stick, just because lighter, reliable and full of emotion. I have heard the new 7 speed pdk gonna weight 50kg more than stick. I bet the car will launch within 1 year. I wish the CGT seats are still there to choice, they are the lightest one, but GT2 don't have that already.
