Default GT3 oil level - Cup car part?

Someone told me that there is a 997 cup car part that you can use to replace the oil fill tube on the GT3/RS that allows the use of an actual dipstick vs that @#$&%*!@# electronic sensor. Can anyone verify or does anyone know the part number(s)?

I'm sick and tired of trying to rely on that stupid gauge which gives me a different reading every time.....no matter how long I wait or anything else....I don't trust it. I'd love to have a plain old mechanical oil dip stick.

Same here. When the car is warmed up but haven't been driven (about 3 min), the level shows lower than when the car has been driven, but idling (about 3 min). So I'm filling up to half way mark but after a drive, it shows over full. I love the old school method.

I think Porsche is looking forward to engine replacement revenues in years to come when faulty electronic measurements lead to catastrophic engine failures.

Getting rid of the dipstick was truly idiotic and BMW-esque.

I said BMW-esque because of it being gratuitous use of technology. Like the so-called "smart wipers" BMW is crowing about in their commercials. Their automated turn signals are another example.

I have to admit to being a bit surprised that BMWs still have real dipsticks though.

He didn't say where the dipstick is.

The new BMWs, excluding the Z4s and X3s, don't have dipsticks and they are already having trouble with the oil level sensors.

On mine it always reads at the first bar after a good drive and it has been idling for 3-5 minutes but if I shut it down and wait 1 minute and restart the engine and check again the level is up to full. Which is the real level?

do not know if the 997 is different but the 996 GT3 oil tank is forward of the motor and looks more like a gas tank. It also is sits vertical so I do not know if the stick will help. It is easy for cars with oil pans under the engine.

Roberga

My 996 GT3 has a dipstick and I check it regularly with the dipstick. The car has to be level, up to operating temperature, air conditioner off, and idling to check with the dipstick. My 997 GT3 RS has no dipstick.

Yep, I realize it's a dry sump oil tank forward of the engine, but my 993 had the same configuration and they managed to have a long dip stick in that tank...same deal, had to check it warm at idle....and it worked FINE! Just hoping someone can verify the 997 CUP car part if it really exists.

Thanks,
Kevin

The majority of 911, 964, 993 and 996-GT3 owners don't know how to use the dipstick or the oil level gauge attached to their dry-sumped engines (I've been guilty of over-filling so I included myself in this category at one time). By off-loading oil temperature compensation to the sensor you're getting rid of THE major source of error.

Wow! Hard to understand how any "enthusiast" would have difficulty reading a dipstick, even in a dry-sump engine. However, if this has now become such a challenging task for modern-era Porsche buyers, why not have both the dipstick and the automated system, so that those of us who have learned the finer points of dipstick use over the years can keep track of the REAL oil level.

Must everything be nannified?

The enthusiast owners are some of the worst offenders.
