Here's my camera mount I plan to install on top of my harness roll bar.
It is hereby dubbed: "The Cam-Clamp"
Cost is less than $3.00
Parts:
1 - 1-1/2" Plumbing Clamp
1 - Screw 1/4x20
2 - Nuts for screw
Camera screws into 1/4x20 screw exiting through the top of the clamp. Most Cameras accept a standard 1/4x20 thread.
You can use ANY camera.... the Sanyo, Go Pro Hero, Oregon Scientific, Sony... any camera will work. I plan to use the Oregon Scientific and my older Sony for In-Car Video.
The only other item I will add is some sort of rubber or cork sheet to protect the roll bar from the inside of the CAM-CLAMP.

I use Chasecam PDR100 & 520 Bullet Lens and Traqmate. Automatic synchronization of data and video. The Chasecam system is not cheap, but it is very high quality and is made for racing conditions. I use a 16 GB SanDisk Extreme III CF card. Tons of mounting options and options for multiple camera lens.

I set up my IO mount this past weekend and used a Sony Handycam with mini DVD's. They record 30 minutes at a time and when I was done, just popped it out and played it on my DVD player at home. Worked flawlessly.

Iv'e heard other sample videos on rennlist from people, you hardly hear engine or outside noises, and just hear wind noise.. WHy is that? And on HD video cams too? How do we get sound like yours?

There are a ton of inexpensive video options that can even record in HD, and provide good quality video. The main issue is you are constantly dealing with battery and start/stopping issues. Also, these type of solutions are not really made for the harsh environments of track driving.
I have used many of the inexpensive options and got tired of oh sh#t I did not turn it on/off or the battery ran out. I have Chasecam and Traqmate, but this is and expensive option which is only suited for the car, and not for family picnics.

Try looking at " Contour HD " new cam system out got it's own battery power - no wires. Got its own sdhc card. It's HD or SD quality with it's own mic for sound. It's small and very good, just got mine and i'm waiting for the suction mount. You can actually just use the helmet mount that comes with it!! £299 in UK. About $279 in USA. GOOGLE IT it's very simple
