$6k sounds ridiculous. I'm pretty sure it's the same old flywheel from the 964 RS, and should cost no more than a few hundred dollars. So it should cost the same as a regular clutch replacement plus the few hundred for the flywheel.

Disregard: Porsche confirms this is NOT the case.

Let us know when you do it - I am considering doing the same thing, over the long winter when there is not much serious driving to be done . . .

Now things are really heating up. I have called around and have prices from $1,600 to $5,700 and quite a few in between. This is from Porsche Dealers around the state. Pretty confusing. Stay tuned for updates.

One thing that I have never got a good answer to is whether a clutch job on these cars requires dropping the engine or not. I have heard both yes and no, depending who I ask. I wonder if that's why you're getting such a wide range of prices?

Is everyone going with the 997 GT3 RS flywheel and clutch package? Or mixing in motorsports parts from the Cup Car or RSR as well??

Update.
Still working on the price, but the latest information I have is that the way to do it "right" is to replace the flywheel and clutch with the GT3RS equipment. This would require removing the engine. The exact number of hours required to accomplish this is unclear, but the parts cost between $2,500 and $3,000. I will keep everyone posted on progress.

norman... really there's is no need to remove the engine. Not sure why you're being told that?

Me either, but what do I know. Perhaps you could give me some talking points so I have some ammunition in a conversation about that. As it was explained to me, they need to remove the engine to replace all existing parts with the RS parts. Does it make sense? Appreciate your interest and willingness to help.

See what I mean? I keep getting conflicting answers to this question.

Does anyone have a way to price out all the RS parts needed to make the transition? Maybe that would be a good starting point from which to negociate.

Hey Norman, I'll dig those parts out for you but all you want is for them to remove your transmission and replace your stock stuff with a Porsche 997 GT3RS Light Weight Flywheel Kit- including clutch disc, throw-out bearing, guide tube, flywheel bolts, throw-out bearing fork, ring gear, pressure plate and light weight flywheel. Aka engine stays in
