I love your combo. I love the shared red theme also. If I ever decide the CGT is too much car/PITA, a 997rs and 981/718 spyder would be my preferred remaining combo. If I was starting fresh today, a 3.8rs and 718 spyder is exactly what I’d do.
This is what I said in the 718 forum "I think the 997.2RS, with its Mezger engine, is an epic car. When I drive my 718 Spyder, I can feel the amazing technology that creates a precision machine. When I drive the RS, its sheer raw analog experience is without parallel. Nothing can really replace the Mezger engine for its visceral experience. The 718 platform feels relatively sophisticated when compared to the brute force of the RS. They are completely different... "
I would add: The open air experience in the GT level 718 Spyder at 8000 RPM with smooth power band all the way up and the ability to 'feather' in or out any level of power or steering that you need for negotiating the curves in the road simply with the beautiful stick shift-clutch combo is extremely satisfying. The 7.2 RS on the other hand is like a secure cockpit which is always alive with deafening roar that overwhelms every sensory input along its power band, and that is unparalleled. IMHO it is faster than the 718 Spyder and feels so too. Mine has only 3000 miles (the RS) and everything (gear, steering, clutch, brakes) are so tight, much tighter than those on the 718 Spyder that has 1400 miles on it now.
Again, completely different cars, but unmistakably Porsche's, both of them.
