Tomorrow I board a plane to an undisclosed top secret location to “test drive” an ’07 RS. If all goes as I expect I will drive it home, including a stop Thursday at Thunderhill for a race car test day. No track time for the RS though.
The trade-off, both for garage space and finances, will be the sale of my ’58 Speedster. I’m not sure how smart this is, trading what has been a quickly appreciating asset for one that is bound to go down in value, at least in the short term. On the other hand, I’m sure I will drive the RS a lot more than I’ve driven the Speedster.
You only live once, right? What would you do?

i have sold many toys that to this day i regret. marantz 7, 8, 9 , ML 2, 6b for example (those who know stereo)....
dont sell the speedster.
i much rather finance the RS then selling the speedster.
for storage, i would think OR real estate is not as obscene as CA, or just add a lift.

If it's about driving, go for the RS. I really had a hard time emotionally trading my factory aero kitted 993 for my GT2. I just love the way the 993 body looks. But I really like the new car too. And when it comes to driving, there's nothing like being in the 21st century. absolutely no regrets on my part.

When it comes to collecting, my REAL passion is Porsche race cars. The Speedster just doesn't do a ton for me - it looks great, but when I go out in the garage I almost never pick it to drive. My 67S street car and the AM Vantage get picked waaaay more often, as I think the RS will. I want to feel strongly about driving all of my cars, not just looking at them.
I thought about selling the AM, but my wife really likes it.

A single post lift takes up zero additonal floor space, has a very low floor loading (can be put on asphalt even).
FWIW, I bought this one years ago and have been happy:

I appreciate your dilemma; my wife decided that I needed to part with a car to get a GT3. I wound up selling my '34 Ford street rod. I miss it but not as much as I thought I would. It was rarely driven as these cars can be a PITA.
Someone else is enjoying the Ford now while I enjoy my GT3. Good luck with your decision!

It's not officially on the market, yet. It will be up there, top of the Speedster market money. Less than 500 miles since full resto, matching numbers, super motor, original Aquamarine Blue over Red. Have your friend PM me if he is serious. Thanks
