Robin - bummer! Footballers and their wives you say? Horrors, good taste being overcome by les nouveau riche. What a shame.

I prefer the flying spur to the Qporte for two reasons. All wheel drive (it snows here) and (2) it is an audi under the skin.

Best,

Best,
Laughing, you have NO idea how close Audi got to buying Maserati, the QP platform is trick.

Which reminds me, Jaguar originally wanted to buy their technology from Audi and were turned down......

Rolls Royce - check; Bentley - check; Aston Martin - pass (German CEO and part owner); Ilmor - check; McLaren - check (in progress); are you beginning to see a pattern?

Actually, its from the VW side, and is a Phaeton in disguise, rather than an upmarket A8. Some of the Flying Spurs are built at VW's Glass manufactuur at Dresden. I personally prefer the Audoi systems to the VW systems when it comes to navigation, mobile phones, sound systems etc.

With the morphing of the new M3 into an M4 GT car, I have high hopes for the new CSL. Imagine a 4-seat three series that can take the kids to school and compete with a GT3 at the Ring.

I agree that if I'm spending/collecting over 200k for a porsche- it's either going to be an ex-racecar (I've always wanted a 956 or a 962...lottery winnings needed, or maybe a 935 and hey why not a 959) or a RUF- those will hold that high dollar value a ton more than the gt2. If you're willing to pick up a car for 200k, what's the difference in spending 40-100k more? Or trading in a few to get one or two big dog +500k cars?

but if you insist on road cars- if your buddy had a 430 scuderia to trade for one of the 3 gt3rs- I'd be interested...or a aston DBS- but I think those are gonna be about $300k US

I don't think the GT2 will hold up to the MSRP as well as the RS in the long run- but they will both lose a bit- road porsches have to be driven to get any value out of the ownership experience in my opinion. With ferraris you can buy them, bubble them, and sell them.

rarity is relative- as are performance and value. if I'm able to collect cars one day it will be going after super limited or one of a kind cars- kind of like those 964 turbo S slantnose cars that spg993 has. How much would one of those C5R lemans vettes cost? or a podium finishing RSR? if you're never driving a car, might as well get one that's not even street legal anyway!

Can you tell me why it has a stupid SLOW button? As far as I am concerned, that is what the accelerator is for. I would say, a nice engine, however. I'll be interested to see how the next M3 CSL turns out, the last one is a hoot.

Why don't you tell us what you really feel?

I have no idea why it has a "SLOW" button. One thing I do know is the E60 M5 elicits strong opinions.

I like the car - if only it was better looking, one of the best engines. I would guess most of tem in the US have the manual gearbox, its different in Europe, where the flappy paddle option is preferred.

I believe most in the US are the 7-speed SMG since the 6 speed manual was only introduced in the 2007 MY. Mine is an SMG. The 7 speed is an excellent match to the high revving V10. The engine comes into its own above 6000 rpm.

interesting how long they took to introduce the manual box, they were talking about it in 2005 as a done deed

Its very interesting to compare the Audi and Lamborghini V-10s with the BMW V-10, quite different dimensions.

All this discussion about a GT 2 being worth the premium over the turbo, how about the GT 3 RS premium over the GT 3? worth it? An what exactly is the diference besides cosmetics?

I think you missed the point.
I favor the GT2 (compared to the RS) for its higher HP, faster Ring time and understated colors.
