rear speakers 997 gt3

It's an option. If you choose the "hifi" then you actually get speakers that work in the back as opposed to cover plates. This is what I ordered. Not "hifi" per se, but I just happily listened to American Idiot on the way home from the office and its quite acceptable (esp compared to the rubbish CS radio).
The option is "Sound Package Plus"
To quote porsche.com:
"The new 911 GT3 is also available with the optional Sound Package Plus. This analog system replaces the internal linear amplifier in the CDR-24 audio system or PCM, with an external amplifier in the luggage compartment. Offering 235 watts through a total of nine speakers, this powerful package is perfectly matched to the unique interior acoustics of the new 911 GT3."

the standard system only lists four speakers & 2x 25 watts, sound package has 9 speakers 235 watts....don't ask me where they are!!!
Bottom line those that obsess with saving an extra few kilos on the sound pack plus (not directed at you watt) will regret it afterwards, because we all like a little music sometime & the standard system is total & utter crap, whilst those few extra kilos make zip difference to handling performance or involvement & the sounds aren't half bad!
Watt your post is rather ironic considering your name!

Attached is a description of both sound systems from the 2007 Porsche GT3 Technical Introduction Booklet.
I had to scan it at a low res. so it's a bit hard to read.

when I want music, I'll drive something else, or put my iPod headphones on.
but that's probably just my idiosyncracy.

The music is in the rear- which center position is really best enjoyed with the hereto disgusting sunroof open.
BTW my rear speakers work but I somehow have the Sound Plus. with analog filters. As a EE I always try to digitize everything as fast a possible for DSP manipulations which are much more accurate than analog filters. I dont understand why Porsche would brag about analog filters. But I am not an audiophile.

I figured if I want to put a real stereo in, I'd rather get a real stereo system(from a stereo shop)...and for that money I'd rather get a louder exhaust
but without prewiring for all the speakers it might be harder, is that right?

Always think it is best to keep things original for best re-sale, once you start messing with wiring looms to add extra amps etc things can get messy!
99% of people enjoy listening to music at some time in their car, even if you are using the GT3 as a track car only, you may be stuck in a traffic jam on the way to the circuit & fancy some music. So for the sake of a few kilos I really cannot see why anyone would think of having the standard system when it is so totally crap & the cost to upgrade is very little!
