Do you need shims for RS wing?
Does the new RS wing require shims to adjust the angle?
How do you adjust? I thought I heard that it is different from the 996 RS wing.

Yep ... There was an earlier post on how to do it. Remove 4 screws, tilt, remove 2 more screws (which are no longer necessary and you can toss), change pin to different hole, tilt back, put back 4 screws. Takes about 5 minutes.

Hi,
We took the wing off a GT-3 and the settings for the wing angles
do not work with the stock GT-3 wing. The fist setting adds about a 30
degree angle and the stock wing does not fit at this angle. I can
see how some 4 shim and 8 shim angles would work. My friend gave
up and bought a RS wing. This RS wing can be adjusted to any angle.

You are correct, but also incorrect - I know because I went through this myself 10months ago when I got the car.
The stock 997gt3 wing does NOT need any shims to adjust the wing to the +4degrees and +8 degrees angles (nothing is needed - it does work)
That said, you MUST REMOVED AND NOT PUT BACK the screw holding the existing shim to the side of the wing upright - it must be allowed to freely hang from just the little metal plug and then the wing is lowered onto the shim and only then are the 2 screws on each side put back into the wing from below.
YOU MUST REMOVE THE SCREW HOLDING THE SHIM TO THE WING UPRIGHT - IT ONLY WORKS FOR THE STOCK LOCATION AND NOT FOR THE +4 AND +8 DEGREEE LOCATIONS
I will stop screaming now
The RS wing can be adjusted from 0 to 16 degrees and can also be very marginally raised in height - when the wing is adjusted up from the stock angle, the wing will now hit the decklid when opened so do not swing the deklid open - i usually place a peice of paper, cardboard, cloth, etc between the wing and the decklid when open so noting gets scratched - during trackday cooldowns this is a must so don't forget or you will melt your carbon fiber wing

I sure wish someone would show some pictures on how
this is done. I only helped play with my friend's GT-3 wing
for about 1/2 hour so I kind of forgot most of the details of
what holds the wing on. I thought that there were 4 pegs to
hold the wing to the upright.

Hi,
There are 4 clips that hold the GT-3
wing onto the upright. Sounds like shims
on the rear clip would increse the wing angle.
I have enclosed a picture showing the clips.

pic #1 (this is the bracket we are talking about)
there are three screws that can go into this bracket - 2 go into the wing from below, 1 goes into the side upright of the wing to secure it to the upright - this is the screw that must be removed
pic #2 ( the bracket still screwed into the wing upright - REMOVE THAT SCREW FOREVER BUT KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE - YOU WILL HOWEVER NEVER NEED IT)
pic #3 (the bracket remove and you can now see the hole where the screw has been taken out of the bracket and will NOT GO BACK IN)
pic #4 (the bracket back in - but in this case the screw is still installed - it must be removed and only the little bit of steel put in the hole that you desire and then lower the wing back onto the bracket so it won't fall out)
pic #5 (wing reinstalled in the top position - you can actually see the hole where the screw is not installed - you can also see in this picture the snow on the ground - i took delivery 2 days after christmas and figured i need all the downforce i could get)
hope this helps
send funds to tirerack for my tire account under the name Paul O'Neil
for even more downforce, remove gt3wing and decklid and install rs wing and decklid

Hi,
These are great pictures. I am sure you are
glad that you phoned Germany and worked this
problem out. Seeing the GT-3 wing with an angle to it sure
destroies the sleek look of the wing. I can see why the RS wing
is the way to go. The wing looks good and it must be easier to
adjust to its 16 different positions.
Thanks again to your pictures.
I am now in the market for a RS wing and will forget about the GT-3
wing.
I think most owners of the GT-3 that get the RS wing leave their GT-3
wing in the garage. In my mind, the GT-3 has a much better re-sale
with a RS wing then a GT-3 wing. A poll would solve this issue. I
really like the look of your car with the RS wing.
