Hi guys,
I need your help. With the recent gloomy stock markets, I thought it might be wise to be a bit prudent to trade down to a '03 996 TT X50. Someone is offering to swap his with my P97 GT3 plus US$65K cash. Some friends are saying that it's a good deal while others (purists) are saying that I'll regret this trade. With two kids in grades 4 and 6, it sounds tempting. I don't really need the dough but then again maybe given the current environment it's a wiser thing to do. I plan to put the extra cash in the market.
Thoughts please.
Peter

Peter,
If the 996TT check out OK, I think it is a great deal. It has all the speed that you will need on the street, plus the rear seats will be perfect for your kids. I said go for it!
BTW, I don't think it is really a trade down. Any 911 Turbo is at the top of Porsche tree.

It IS a trade down. But that sounds like a very fair deal, depending on the mileage and condition of the 996TT and how much your GT3 was.
The 996TT is softer but it is a great street car - especially with AWD.
The 996TT has suffered most if not all the depreciation already. The 997 GT3 will be worth less than the deal he offered very soon.

His pricing my 997 GT3 at $185K and his 996TT at $120K. I sold my 993TT way back in 2000 when I had to relocate to Singapore and I regretted that decision badly. I just wonder if this trade will be the same i.e. will the GT3 hold its value w/c is probably not the case. I love the GT3 but don't have a track here to take it to so it's a pity really. A friend was so admant against the trade saying the 996TT has too many boxster parts. Too much of a commodity I guess.

It certainly does not have the boxster engine nor the basic 996 engine block, or suspension, or drive train, or transmission, etc., etc., etc..The X50 is a great package to have, and the interior is going to be upgraded over the boxster also.

That's what I needed...a bit of push factor...GT3 may not be faster on a drag race indeed but it's far more ENGAGING I guess...thanks again...
