Default Up Date on Screen stock

I was looking this over to do some screens on my 3 and was having a hard time finding the right screen, then I cam across this provider who also has some neat trim to go around the screen edges and has some nice powder cote screen. FYI.

rmag,
Thanks very much for the write up . Without your help I do not know how to take off the bumper cover to send it to the painter to refinish it. I loose the condenser from the radiator and wash out all trashed accumulated for last 25K miles. I do not have GT3 but C2S. I feel that is important to have a mesh grill so rocks from trucks will not damaged my condenser any further. In fact one of the rock came in and hit the condenser and bended one of the horizontal lines on the surface of the condenser that carries feon.
I went to Home depot and paid $4 for 2 of the 6x36 inches piece galvanized steel leave cover for the gutter and molded it to fit over the side vents and center radiator in front of the ducts and the black plastic frame of the bumper. I think the material will have at least 68% pass through, before I clean up the dirt, I think I only get 50% pass through because of all the leaves I collected in last 25K miles. Same piece will be $20 from customcargrills but the material is aluminum.

Thumbs up

Ryan,

Well done on the DIY screen installation.

As soon as I can find the right mesh I think I'll give it a try.

This is the stuff that makes this such a great forum!

I think daytonaviolet FOUND the "right" material for the job... its powder coated and made of stainless steel... just have to find it on the east coast... or maybe call OSH direct?

daytonaviolet can you chime in again as to its durability?

Revival here.... I just picked a sheet of this up over the weekend from OSH. Packaging is identical to daytonaviolet's picture in his post # 29 a year ago, however nowhere on the packaging does it state that it's SS.

DV can you comment on how you determined it is stainless steel? More importantly, how has it held up over the last year?

CUP grills for the cost compared to the price of car and what they protect.... it really isnt that bad a deal to stick with factory CUPs. No drilling required either.

Bump: Thx for putting all that effort into documentation for others to benefit from! I bought a set from Cargraphic and are to disassemble the front.
Pity Porsche haven't put mesh grill as factory equipment until the entry of the GT3 MKII.

Cool

No need to remove this screw. this is for the plastic bracket that guides the bumper, not hold it.

Talking

Well after a raccoon punched out my center mesh screen, it was time for an update. Rennlist and it's members came thru with the how -to info. Thanks rmag and Rennlist!
I used FVD's mesh set, and love the improved look. One redo part. Instructions of this set are in German. I had to discover that center mesh had to be trimmed to size as bumper cover would not seat properly with untrimmed mesh.
Thank you all again!

Came out nice FJPDDS. I have the same mesh kit from FVD and have been procrastinating the diy install. Just out curiosity, how long did it take you?

4- 5 hours or so of piddling, reviewing directions, watching F1 qualifying etc. My kind of Saturday.
Make sure you trim that mesh to size. Having to take cover off again was a setback. All in all a satisfying DIY.
