My guess for price of the GT2 based on the article and the price of the RS:

RS in GB = 94K pounds
GT2 in GB = 131K pounds

The GT2 is approx 39% higher. So, $124K for 2008 GT3 RS x 1.39 is approx. $172K.

However, I'll bet it sells here for over $190K.

Canada is likely to get scr*wed again since Porsche prices car at 1.4500 exchange rate when the real rate is more like 1.0500.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Porsche's currency hedge expires soon, so I wonder if the subsidies here in the US will last? $190k is probably a good guess, especially given that some RSs are supposedly selling in that range!

I think the 131k pounds inlcudes 17.5% VAT, so would only be around $220k

The reason asles tanked last time was that they originally offered less than 1000 units and then kept building them and building them, and two years later, gave it more power ect. They need to stuick to their guns when they say it will be a limited edition, and not flood the market with them.

The days of Porsche producing truely 'limited' editions have long gone. It's a mugs game anyway. Why should they sell cars for other people to make money out of?

At the end of the day, there will be slightly more GT2s than the market can comfortably absorb and maintain a high price used market.

The discussion as to the relative merits of the GT3 and the GT2 begs several questions.

Genus cranium petroleum has several subspecies and cranium petroleum sporticus breaks down into two distinct groups - those who are addicted to the art of competive driving - auriga biga circus maximus and those addicted to the sensation of speed - auriga celerrimus cranium rapida.

The GT3 is for auriga biga circus maximus whilst the GT2 is for auriga celerrimus cranium rapida.

Those who favour all wheel drive chariots fall in the sub genus - quadriga sporticus and there is another mutation of the species which favour an anacronistic chariot beloved of the most ferocous German tribes - the auriga equae posterior.

So, if the sensation of speed is your thing, then the GT2 is the chariot of choice.

Worldwide pricing (for an individual country) for anything is based on marketing analysis of demand (and the supplier's desire for establishing an image of "preciousness"), so it's not as though PAG marketers sit in an office in Zuffenhausen and price mark their cars for the entire world, and then make the currency conversion for each country. So there is nothing for them to "subsidize" (they are not the USSR or the US D.O.T.). And tax rate differences between countries doesn't explain the price differences either.

ANY country the 997GT2 is sold in will make a profit for Porsche and its dealers, including here in the USA, still Porsche's most important market.
