But what I'll bet you don't understand is that American drivers are horrible, mainly because most don't pay attention to what they're doing. They read, eat, put on makeup, change clothing while driving at maximum posted speeds.
Here in Michigan, a woman was recently run off of Interstate 96, which caused her car to roll over and kill her. The driver of the other car was seen to be changing his shirt while driving when the incident occurred. He was located and arrested and a trial is pending.
I've driven in Germany twice, now, and the difference in driver skill level becomes obvious within 20 miles or 1/2 hour! I'm far, far more comfortable at 200K on the unlimited stretches of Autobahnen than I am on a US Interstate at 120 KPH, because I know that the majority of German drivers are competent!
