Default When to get first oil change?

The service book I got with my GT3 seems to indicate that oil changes only need to be done every 20,000 miles or 2 years. Is that right?
Should the oil not be changed more frequently (assuming normal driving conditions)?

Man, this debate has raged on here since the dawn of time... Responses are all over the place. Some say "The factory engineers say 20k miles, who are we to debate it..." Others say "Every 3,000 miles". I'm in the middle and here's what I did / will do:

3,000 miles I changed it as a "post break-in" procedure. Whatever metallic fines that came loose during break-in are now out of the system. Next I'll change it once every late fall before winterizing the car - so the sludge doesn't build up as the car sits for 3-4 months. A change every fall might mean every 7,500 miles or so - whatever I put on the car in a year.

I'd change it after the break in.

I've done this on a 996 GT3 and at least on that car, there was fairly good amount of metal showing in the oil coming out of the engine.

I've heard this debate 100 times in my life. The above sounds reasonable to me. When in doubt, choose the middle road as RonCT is suggesting.

Got less than 1000 kilometers untill break-in is complete. Changing ther oil right after that.

Well, I'm strange, but I change mine after 500 miles in every new car. After that, probably every 3000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first.

I did what cobrien did, had it changed after the first 500 miles to clense out any metal particles that might be floating around in a new engine being broken in... cheap insurance. After that I will go into a schedule of every 3000 miles.
