Default Sunroof delete

FYI, the alcantara headliner, interior light, and new skin for the sunroof delete is 1160 Euro (about $1500) from Gert.

I'll look into the labor costs when I get a chance.

Jeff, are you going to replace with oem sheet metal roof? if so, could you please weigh before and after. just curious how much it actually comes out to.

Who would paint it? I would think the most difficult part would be the paint.

Why would the paintwork be so difficult? Just a roof panel and the paint would be blended down the a and c pillars. . . maybe I'm missing something. But yeah, I'm going to check around with some the better body shops about costs on labor.

Painting is not going to be the problem (I think you don't even need to go down to c pillars, instead use the "strip" on the roof as a break point). Removing the old skin & attaching new is the main job even though that is not such a big deal either. Then there's of course the headliner etc but that's not so much as the roof itself.

Also, FWIW, RUF quoted around 2000 euros to do a sunroof delete on a US spec car (I had them price this out along with an integrated roll cage).

Cost isn't exceptional given what people spend on lug bolts to remove a few hundred grams of weight.

That's a cheap mod for people who can't stand the hole. Painting is easy. The metalwork might be a slight issue depending on the curvature of the roof. The patch might need a slight compound curve to it. In the sunlight you might notice it....but in the end, who really cares? The hole will be gone and you will be happy.

Cheers,

IMO weight reduction not great for cost 3k for 20-30 lbs?
many other cheaper ways to lose that weight..ofcourse if you are trying to get every lb off it all adds up

you get more room for a good cage but you can always work round it if a custom cage

Cheers,
I think just replacing the entire roof with an oem non-sunroof panel is the route he is going. don't have to worry about curving a sheet of metal to fit. it just does. nothing like oem.

Correct, that's the proper way to have it done. No sense going ghetto, like people do with race cars (i.e., weld up sunroof panel).

Paintwork shouldn't be tough at all. In fact, you shouldn't have to do much with the paint gun at all, seeing as the new panel can be painted to match and then inserted where the sunroof cartridge piece was. Rails and trims should transfer, so no need to blend into the A and C pillars. Or am I missing something?

And, yes, *definitely* do not weld up the hole with a patch. That will show up down the road...and be seriously uglay.

pete, maybe I'm misunderstanding. . . Isn't the entire roof skin replaced, extending down the or at least to the A and C pillars?

I haven't seen a picture of the replacement skin, so I don't have an appreciation for where welding would take place.

Frayed - if your numbers are right ($2k), go Ruf...especially if they're throwing in the IRC.
