No such thing as 60/40. It’s 40/60. If the installer flips the ramps over to what would be 60/40 the lsd will lock up one wheel and explode several thousand miles later. They are directional.

I put the RS ring and pinion in my 7.2 this spring. I left all the gears alone. I haven’t done any highway cruising yet, but I don’t think I’m going to mind a few extra revs on the interstate. This is the way porsche should have made the car… and I should have done the mod years ago

I recently had the RS 3.89 R&P along with the taller RS 6th and the 4.0 clutch/LWFW installed on my 7.2. The RS gearing and clutch is how the 7.2 should have come from the factory. I found the car utterly boring before in its stock form and it sat in my garage undriven for almost a year. Now it's actually really fun to drive and finally getting some miles put on it.

is there any downside to doing 3.89 R&P ONLY and not regearing (expect maybe 6th gear) ? Only want to do this once and will pay more to do it right the first time … much appreciated

So far it seems like only upside to the ring and pinion swap. I don't have a ton of miles on it yet, but my fiance and I both agree that the car should have come with the shorter ring and pinion. I think if i did many highway miles I would probably appreciate the taller 6th gear. Cruising at 70 just over 3k doesn't seem bad at all, but if I bump it up to 80 and 4k it starts to seem a bit much. This configuration will probably be better for my drivers license. I have no plans to change it, but If i had to have Copans in there again, i would consider swapping out 6th. All the other ratios seem perfect.

I am ready to pull the trigger on r&p 3.89 for my 997.1 GT3RS with the dealer doing the work … would you know the part number for taller 6th gear from the 997.2 GT3RS or 4.0RS ? or the ratio is it .88 or .92? really appreciate the help as dealer parts not sure of 6th gear asked if I could confirm? thank you

would you know the ratio .88 or .92 on your 6th gear or part number by chance? it is from the 997.2 RS correct? thanks
