Sounds to me like miscommunication regarding the 'hood' and 'bonnet'.

While I suppose it is remotely possible that the US cars will get a CF front lid to homologate the RS since new EU pedestrian safety standards might disallow it, it would indeed be unprecedented that we get go-fast goodies that the home market does not.

There is no way Porsche is going through the trouble to manufacture 2XX CF hoods (I'm sure VERY minimal weight savings over the aluminum piece...my guess is <5 lbs) for the US market just to make up for the lack of lexan window and CF seats.

exactly porsche will not go out of its way to do something different except if needs to for regulations
e.g. sunroof crash testing etc ( if it's cf here then it's also in row)

btw i did the calculation and US and row should weigh the same but that's because of the smaller tank offsetting the 20lbs or so savings from seats/rollbar..lexan vs thin glass is just a couple of lbs

gt3 is same in us and row per sunroof and smaller tank cancelling each other out

Fact is that we do not really have a clue as to the weight of the RS or the 3 here in the US.
All of the published weights are from British EU cars, not actual US weights.
The weight difference is 44lbs for the EU version (3031 vs 3075)

Published facts:

Despite its widened body and standard roll cage, the new
911GT3 RS is 20 kg lighter than the 911GT3 at just 1,375 kg.

For the US now subtract Roll Cage weight...
Subtract x lbs? for CF hood (vs aluminum)
Add back 24kg (53lbs) for seats
Add back 3kg (6.6 lbs) for rear window. Both have "Thin glass" add back less?

Until a car is placed on scales here ....we really don't know

Agreed. Unless of course we can get an "official" notice from PCNA/PAG as to what the US version will weigh...

See attached press release, which is on the official PCNA press website (not available to general public) -- weight given, and specs say alum hood.

So basically the info that I was emailed and the dealer reps were emailed about a carbon hood installed on NA cars is a typo then.

But how can the NA ca rbe listed as still weighing 1375kg, the same as the ROW?

So what exactly is the size of the fuel tank.. I can point you to 3, yes three, different places in the literature where the size is stated differently

IIRC

16.9
17.3
17.8

Anybody really know?

In the USA
2wd Carreras = 16.9 US gal
4wd Carreras & GT3 = 17.7 US gal

ROW GT3 = 27.7 US gal

I have both the stock hood and a CF hood for my 996 GT3. I don't know offhand if the 996 GT3 hood is aluminum or steel. However, the CF hood I have on the car is about 15-20 lbs lighter than the stock hood.

MJ, it seems you have been privy to a lot of information about the RS. Wondering if you can confirm with the people who originally sent you that email about the NA RS receiving a carbon front hood in place of the aluminum, if it indeed is happening or if it is in fact a mis-communication on their part.
