Keep in mind that a wider car needs more room to get through the corners. In case of the Nurburgring, any improvements in the chassis are more than negated by a wider driving line and worse aerodynamics. Congrats.
I don't think that is correct. It's wider by a 44mm which I doubt anyone could 'feel' on the track, and Rohrl reported 7.42 (RS) vs. 7.45 (GT3) on the ring on a slightly damp track. 3 second spread in the RS's favor, as it should be. He also stated that all the time was made up in the high speed sections. Check out the latest EVO.

Porsche is not going to put out an RS that is slower than it's (lesser) GT3 counterpart.

In any event, it's all academic. It's not like any of us could really feel the differnece of 3 seconds on the ring, much less approach laptimes anywhere in this ballpark.

IMO, the GT3 is clearly the better value, but then again, anyone looking at value should not be on this board.

That's actually not bad, but you are stuck with 'hope' of an RS vs. the sure thing of a GT3 of your spec. I'm in the same boat, with a few RS leads, but they'll come at a price. Eventually you hit the wall and say WTF, I'm going to get a nicely spec'd 3.

The GT3 is a better value in my opinion, I suspect the US version of the RS will be somewhat lacking compared to the euro version anyway (rollbar/seats). Like Jeff said, just spec out a nice GT3.

Ahh...I knew my logic would appear eventually when people had to lay down the clams for the cars. I will tell you though that someone who purchases an RS then ROW specs it will have a hell of a resale on the car. People will pay a premium to not have to source everything themselves. That and there is a line of people wanting an RS, so I think of any Porsche, its the best investment.

I was also told the US spec GT3RS was slightly heavier (~50lbs) over the the US spec GT3 since we don't get the light seats and such, but added the heavier body work? Anyone confirm this. I will be curious to see numbers when the GT3RS US and GT3 hit the magazines...I think people will be disapointed.

i think they will have the same ROW numbers the GT3 is the same as ROW
(sunroof but smaller tank) and the sunroof removal should balance out with lack of rollbar and seats in the RS

seems porsche used smaller tanks for US cars to be able to quote the same numbers everywhere!

Walter Rohrl ran a 7:39 in a regular 997 GT3. It is in the official track records.

you might want to check if 9 year olds can go on the factory tour, my best recollection was you had to be 18 to go on the tour, are you bringing someone that can watch her during the tour?

Wow! I think you're getting hammered. My cars cost me $1250usd to go from LA to Dalian, China. Even if it was quadrupled to get to Europe, which I suspect is way overkill, that's still half the price!

If you go roll-on roll-off, you are correct, however I'd only ship the car in an enclosed container and that's about $5k each way.

dark knight is right, I went on the factory tour myself last summer and I recall them telling me that you had to be at least 18 to go on the tour. I even have the confirmation sheet here that says you have to be 18. I'm going again next spring so I made reservations again.

Maybe you might want to reconsider doing the factory tour and getting more options?

Congrats on choosing the GT3! I have the new Turbo myself and LOVE it.

No - $1250usd is an enclosed container including loading and unloading. I usually get 2 cars in that container.

how did you get the european seats? I could not find option 375 when I ordered mine. Please respond. May be I can change mine as well. Did you sign a waiver of some sort? Is the airbag sign going to stay on in the dash?

Kevin, you can't get them in the US because they do not contain the side impact airbag required in the US. The only way to get them is to order them outside the US and get someone to turn off the airbag warning and sign the required waiver. I haven't figured things out 100% but I have some time. Option 375 are actually just the standard seats - I just saw that my writing must have been a bit misleading.
