Default 997 GT3 - 0 to 186 mph video

Notice the rev limiter kicks in at 8,200 rpm in 5th gear. In the 996 GT3 the rev limiter is set at 8,000 rpm for 5th and 6th gear.

The upshifts from 3rd, 4th and 5th are very similar to the 996 GT3 (up by 250, 100 and 150 rpm respectively), that's basically what was gained by the 200 rpm higher redline and not the closer ratios. Indeed from 3rd to 6th, the spacing between gears is almost identical on the 996 and 997 GT3.

I think you are trying to convince yourself that the 997 GT3 is not much of an improvement.

Gear ratios are different

Throws 15% shorter

Torque improved

Steering improved

HP increased

Suspension improved

Chassis improved

I have to tell you it's a quantum leap (I was surprised by the extent of the improvement), but go drive one and decide for yourself.

Until you drive one your theoretical comments are useless. No offense intended.

I am surprised how smooth the car sits at those speeds - maybe the camera had some stabilization? In my RS4 I get tremendous vibrations at those speeds.

Navigation screen in the center console, bling wheels, traction control... It's certainly a quantum leap in luxury

Don't worry about pcar, he's just a hater. He likes to bash all new Porsches.

B5 A4's/S4's/RS4's are all notorious for getting hairy above about 120mph. Our new B7 RS4 sits beautifully all the way up to 155, and I would feel safe taking it to its projected 185mph top speed if the limiter wasn't in place.

Wes, actually, I have no problems up to about 170. If I go significantly beyond that, I feel that there is tremendous vibration from the crappy aerodynamics. I have to add that my RS4 has been to MTM headquarters for some mods so I also don't have the speed limiter - and yes, I only do this on occasional trips to Germany without passengers.

Sweet...I love B5 RS4's. All of our B7's have been much more planted than the B5 counterparts I have driven...RS4 the exception since there are only some 2 of them in this country.
