Larger wheel diameter = better performance or not?
With each generation of 911 the wheel diameter increases. Now with the 997 we have the 19” wheel. Is there any performance benefit for the 19” wheel over the 18” even it the weight is equal? Where will this end, will the 998 or whatever come with 20” wheels? I guess basically what I’m asking are these latest wheel diameter increases for show or go?

More for contemporary show.
19" wheels are not permitted in Rolex or ALMS
Buy a 997 GT3 Cup car you get 380mm brakes and 18" wheels
Buy a 997 GT3 RSR car you get 380mm brakes and 18" wheels
Perhaps 18" wheels will work with 380mm PCCB

18" wheels fit the larger PCCB on the 997 GT3. Not every 18" wheel fits. Wheel design for spokes, round sections close to the spokes, and offsets will determine if they fit.
19" are for look. I've 19" on my GT3, because they look good, but when I go for serious competition, I run 18"x10" and 18"x12" with big tires.
