Are you SURE about 'payment of VAT'? There are many ways of avoiding payment of VAT, in any event, the car is invoiced to the purchaser at a USA address and therefore exempt from VAT, foreign purchasers of cars are given a number of months to export vehicles which have not had VAT levied on them. Incidentally the VAT rate in Germany is being increased form 16% to 19%.

The risk associated with financing a car for euro delivery is more apparent than real, does the finance house forbid Americans from driving their cars to Canada or Mexico?

euro delivery used to be free, but now, they charge because mgmt no longer wanted to lose money on cost of euro delivery, it is a bummer as factory visits and euro delivery are probably worth their weight in gold to Porsche as a marketing exercise, I'm sure they receive in return many thousands of dollars in free advertising and repeat customers

I'm sure about the VAT payment under the European delivery plans. Since you get it back once the car is exported from Germany, that becomes your motivation for actually exporting it. For example, a GT3 is about Eu 12,000 (net of taxes) cheaper if purchased in the US so I could see how Porsche makes sure the cars purchased in the US actually end up in the US.

BTW - For my wife's Mercedes we actually had to sign a declaration where we would not export the car from the US within 12 months of purchase.

When you pick up your Porsche at the factory they have a specialist there to go over the car with you. I asked him about "break in" for the motor he smiled and said "This is a Porsche it is meant to be driven". His only reservation was to let the oil temp come up before pegging it out at redline.

After seeing the just finished motors on the dyno's held at redline for 10 minutes as the evaluate the power outputs, you realize what the delivery speialist was talking about.

Are you talking about leaving it parked in Europe so that it arrives here after a year has passed? You'd have to pay Porsche to register and insure it for that duration...not cheap, I imagine...and you'd be perjuring yourself, as CA requires the car be used out of state for one year...does not include storage.

When I did ED with my E46 M3, the break-in period was 1,200 miles...I put 900 of those on in the first three days driving through the Alps, which is a perfect break-in...constantly changing revs...and had a blast while still adhering to the break-in procedure...plenty of power under 5.500 RPM for unfamiliar mountain roads, even in that car. I was there for business, so the next 300 miles took me another week...but then had the oil changed at a dealer in Budapest, and let 'er rip on the Autobahn and Nurburgring for another ~2,000 miles.

Default found a dealer willing to do euro delivery

car is a june build and i plan on picking up in august. now i have to worry about configuring the thing. right now, i dumped the idea of PCM and going with PCCB's and xenon's. thats about it. can't decide if i want to keep this car lightly optioned or add the full boat.
