porsche has its failings: trux, hubris, depreciation and option pricing for example, but each new car has been a demonstrable improvement over the last.
i have no doubt the new 3 is better, EXCEPT for having a sunroof... which is where P's failings come in. the car has been repositioned as a fast comfy daily driver and the stripper performance concept moved to the RS. fast daily driver is what we all use them for anyway... but now sunrood and cupholders and ipod... too bad they didnt do the humidor as i requested

I reserve opinion until I have a chance to drive the new one...every new model is usually faster than the one it replaces unless engine and/or emissions laws change as in the '70's.

One other thing; BETTER is very relative...I could make a good argument for the 993 (C2) being better than the 996 (C2), not faster but better.

I think the confusion comes from directly comparing the 996GT3 with the 997GT3, their respective missions are different. The 997GT3 is now more daily driveable, but with better performance. In character the 996GT3 falls somewhere between the 997GT3 & 997GT3RS.

Both cars are underpowered. I will wait for the 997 GT2, hopefully they fix the awful turbo lag on the 996 GT2.
997 GT2 + RS Hood, Seats, LWFW and cage. Special Order Color: Orange.

I'm on a business trip until then so I can't pick it up before. Sad thing is we have nasty weather right now - snow already - hopefully it will melt away again. I will share pictures and the experience as soon as I can!
