So if the 997 GT3 is going to have the hole; where
would one go to have it removed and have the entire roof panel replaced?
Has anyone here any info on such surgery?
Has anyone here any info on such surgery?

Porsche is keeping the focus groups happy. And their shareholders. Nothing else matters.

Perhaps a little more realistically, I think you can get 99% of the effect by having a body shop make an alloy or CF blank to drop into that donut hole. Or course this doesn't recover the lost head room and doesn't remove all of the weight.
It might even be possible to buy the outer panel of the sunroof as a separate part, then either use it (presumably it's steel, but maybe it's an alloy) or use it as a blank to make a copy in a lightweight material.
You'd still have a sunroof outline (unless you went to the trouble of body work and blending the paint, which wouldn't be completely insane or beyond contemplation in terms of the cost) and you'd have no warranty impact.
You might still want to re-trim the cabin in a single piece of cloth/Alcantara or whatever. At least, that's my general plan, assuming I get a GT3 without waiting too long.

The MSRP for the 997 non-sunroof roof panel is $375.76 and the interior headliner will run you another $1000-1500USD, so figure about $1k for both if buying mail-order from a Porsche dealership. And unlike the pre-996 models you don't need to cut the whole top of the car off to replace the panel because its not crimped in place. If you look at the pictures of the new corvettes with failed roofs the 996 is put together the same way with adhesive but with the addition of some spot welds. I don't have the time units (book time) for the procedure but the instructions for replacement look real simple compared to what you had to previously do.

I truly don’t see that happening.. they are out to make $$ and to put in another production line just for non sunroof GT3 does not make economic sense.

That is exactly what the Lord told Adam when he asked what a helpmate for the garden would cost him.........
He then settled for what he could get for a rib.

body work would damage the value of the car, keep the pressure up, dont give in, remember they told us in the 80s we'd never get the turbo
