Default 997.1 GT3 as an only car

I work from home, no kids, live in a city but am close to lots of fun driving area. My current only car is a 08 C4 cab manual. Thoughts on a 997.1 GT3 as an only car? Would mostly use for road trips and spirited drives. It’s easy to rent a SUV in my city if I need to haul people or things.

I’ve got 20” wheels on my cab with PASM so it’s fairly stiff so I don’t know how much stiffer and less comfortable a GT3 would be with standard sport seats.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Certainly doable especially if you have sofa's. My 991 targa is a semi dd and I have kids so you have no excuse lol

Do you live in a city that sees any snow/salt usage? If so, I'd avoid any 997 GT product. They have less underbody protection than other 997's. 997 GT is also a decent amount lower than other 997s, so if your city has a lot of challenging driveways, you'll need to consider that. Other than that, I think you'll be fine with it.

I believe @DD GT3 RD had his 997.1 as his daily driver and only car for a while. I don't think it would be a problem if you live in a large city. It might get a little tiresome if you are regularly stuck in traffic for long periods.

Yep. It’s so subjective. Everyone has diff tolerances.

I think the cabs are not well damped compared to the hard top cars. I prefer the ride in my 997.1 GT2 with DSC & buckets over my 997.2 C2S cab with regular seats. I'd say yolo...

My cab is my daily, but I only drive on weekends.

Comparing it with a car with DSC is cheating! Haha, I don’t mind the ride of my cab.

Think it's do-able if you have the tolerance. If you have Uber etc, then it's actually ok. Just do avoid the crazy days in rain (to avoid standing water) and salt/snow ...

Your situation seems like a (yes) to me. GT3 front will be lower than your Cab, so scraping would a possible issue depending on where you drive.

You can also easily add rear seats to your 997.1 gt3. I did and it made it an easier dd

As mentioned previously, traffic jams and ground clearance are the only negatives. I assume you have a secure place in which to park.

The only complaint I have with the 997 GT3 is that the frunk is pretty useless. I can’t put food up front, nor even anything remotely fragile like laptop in there. It just gets way too hot when the car goes through any form of city traffic. And I do mean really hot.

I never thought this would be an issue. Both my previous 987 (non GT car) and current 981 GT4 get a little warm up there, but not as hot for sure. Mine does have a rear factory cage in it, and it does make grocery shopping a little less convenient. If you get a GT3 with fixed back buckets, then this might be a bit annoying as you might need to use the area behind the seats a lot more.

I've driven almost 18 years and better than 150K daily miles in my 6GT3. Have at it!
