Default Just bought 997 GT2 - What tires?

Hello - I just bought at 997.1 911 GT2 with very low miles and 8 year old tires.. I was wondering if everyone is sticking to the Cup 2's or is there a more preferred/ better performing tire these days?

For the power your car can put down, I’d say at least cup 2’s?

Congrats on the GT2! You’re a lucky man!

Trofeo RS seems to be the current king, but would have to settle for the R for 997. I will try them on the next round.

Super Car 3 R also good. I have Yokohama AD08 on my BBS and like them so far. Have yet to track on them.

Congrats on the car! You should love it.

I think Cup 2's are a nice match if you are doing mix of street and some track. If more track focused, Trofeo's maybe.

Congrats, RaceDeck! Being a GT2 owner, I was following that auction with great interest.

Tire choice depends on intended usage. My GT2 is the car I want to drive all weekend, so I chose PS4S. It’s not my track car. I have a GT3 for that.

if you’re planning a mix of street and track, I’d recommend Goodyear’s Supercar 3. The Supercar 3R is best for track-only. I wouldn’t want to dull its performance with street driving.

How is the PS4S in terms of feel on our 997's? I've heard some complain of a softer/less responsive turn in when compared to the PS2 (not the Cup 2, but the Pilot Sport 2), which I know is not available for the GT2. But I really value a stiffer sidewall and good turn in feel which I think either the Cup 2 or PS2 provide.

I have driven on the Supercar 3 and enjoyed them. A friend of mine runs them and is happy with them also.

As others have said… whatcha want to do with it? One complaint I have for spring mountain twisties is how many rocks I kick up with less than stellar spring roads with cup 2. However I like knowing my tire grip based on psi and being familiar with its limits, so I just stick to the them. I don’t drive mountain roads in rain or below 50 degrees, if I did I’d prob have pS4S.

Congratulations! Beautiful! Is that the Southlake car from BaT?
Very low miles indeed if thats the one. I live not to far away and have never see that car before ever on the street or any event so it must have been a real garage queen!

If its going to stay a garage queen, probably ps2's would be the default, correct proper N spec choice.
if you are going to drive her in any sort of real world street conditions on a regular basis, then PS4S.

enjoy!

Thanks for all the tire info -
MCHRONO - Yes, this was the one on BAT and from South Lake. The car was part of a large private collection and did not see much driving time, this will now change.. Everything in my garage RD SpeedGarage is driven... Utah roads are made for driving

Sidewall of the PS4S is certainly softer than the Cup 2. PS4S turn in is not as sharp and ultimate grip is lower, but the GT2 doesn’t feel significantly compromised in its ability to deliver driving fun on the road. I do think the PS4S is a bit friendlier than the Cup 2 at its grip limit. I haven’t driven on PS2 for ages, so can’t speak to that comparison.

Congrats RaceDeck! 997.1 GT2 is a sick looking car! Also, I would go with Cup 2's as others have suggested unless cold temperature is an issue. I once ruined a set of Michelin Cup tires while driving to Palm Springs on a beautiful but cold morning in near freezing temperatures. Sidewalls developed fine cracks.
