Am I the last crazy guy to still drive the 4.0 on track in 2023 ?

I think I’m gonna ship mine out and do a few DE’s a year. Screw it. It’s a dead man’s car to me. Join me. Be irresponsible

@sirringo did you track your GT3 at THill? What org did you run with? Impressions (about the org)?
I run often with SpeedSF plus Lightspeed and Speed District; different feels at each one but I'd give good feedback on all organizations. The only group I will never run with again is the NorCal Shelby Club - by far and away the most unacceptably lax attitude towards safety I've seen in 15 years of track days. NASA is highly professional but less track time with long waits between sessions.
Still refreshing some items on the GT3 before I take it out later this year (just took delivery of it in March)!
PM me if you're looking at any upcoming days, would love to meet up!

+1 on HOD. They run a good program and have excellent instruction for the newcomers. PCA GGR also pretty good.

I was actually in my 718 - HOD (Hooked on Driving) did this event and it was fantastic. They charge a premium but from a safety, organization, and extras perspective (lunch included, actually useful download meetings discussing where to find extra tenths, etc.) it was spot on. Hordes of instructors around for tips too. I was escaping the heat in one of the classroom areas during a novice debrief and they were discussing in great detail how to stay in control when you go off-track with videos and case studies. Was impressed. Will be with them again at Laguna in a couple weeks on a high dB day

@sirringo @ChrisF +1 on HOD. David and Tupper run a tight organization with emphasis on safety. I also like that they "pro rate" time lost due to incidents evenly across all remaining sessions. It's more administrative work but is fairer. Other orgs I have run with (Ongrid and Corsa) take all the time lost out of the immediately following session. I lost an entire 20 minute session at Sonoma siting on the grid and had to return to the paddock. I posted about my experience with Corsa on RL (tl;dr: their attitude towards safety makes your hair stand up straight). Yes I'd love to connect for a track event although I'm more of a fall / winter / spring participant; I tend to sit out the "hot season"

Not lucky enough to have a 4.0 but I'm a very lonely 997 GT3 on track as well. Truth be told, I'm slower than my friends in the 991's & 992's and I work a lot harder...
Two weeks ago I was at The Ridge and there were two other 997 cars. One was a full blown cup car and the other was a seriously modded track car.
I drove there and back with a passenger, a teenage german nephew who had the time of his life.
But I still love it and wouldn't sell it for a few seconds in a DE event that has no winners or prize accept smiles. Well, and shiny side up :-)

Still tracking my 3.8 at DEs. Folks still come up and say “do you know how much those are worth? Can’t believe you are tracking it.”
I am happy to be enjoying it as intended even if the financial decision of selling and getting another track car with money to spare is better on paper. Too emotionally attached to see it go.

Awesome! It’s all about the drive and how you feel and the fun you have. These are the best drivers cars in the world.

Thank you for driving your Porsche. 4.0 or 3.8 or 3.6 it does not matter. Your driving the car is what you are supposed to do. YOU are doing everyone a favor as if the cars are only in a collection know one would even remember. Drive it as it was meant to be driven. An RS is is a beautiful thing. Meant to be DRIVEN.

Fall 2020 last time out. I’ve driven things as/more fun on street but few if any street cars more fun on track than a 7-4.0.
