Default GT3 Motorsport control arm monoball DIY weather seal

I was surprised to see that the control arm monoballs do not have seals. My car is for canyons and street mostly so I cannot have exposed monoballs. I ended up sourcing a gasket that fits nicely. I know some of you guys use Motorsport parts and drive on the street. If anyone wants to make some, post a reply and I can share the details.

Seal fits well. Turned out better than expected

Before seal

Flips up for greasing

Protected from dirt and the elements

I’m intrigued, this is something I looked into but couldn’t find a seal that fit correctly. Can you share details?

Here are the details.

Go to your local Oreily’s auto part store and pick up four 42072 master cylinder gaskets. They coast $9 each.

Punch or cut out the center.

Install this side facing up by stretching it over the flange. It does take some effort but it will stretch enough and end up staying tight on the conical surface.

Tuck the edges down by using a flat tool that is not sharp. This photo shows how it will settle after tucking in. Use flat tool to flip the outer edge up if you need to add lubricant. I am reading that a dry ptfe spray lube will be good for this type of monoball but now that it’s sealed, can I use grease to extend its life?

That’s it. The accordion shape and the size fits perfectly. The flip up feature is a bonus. I couldn’t believe I was able to find a gasket that fits tight on both the bearing flange and also the outer aluminum sleeve. This should keep out dirt and moisture. Post some photos if you try making this.

You’re welcome. I know we are not supposed to use grease on these but now that it’s sealed I’m thinking about putting some Krytox grease in there to extend its life. Do you run yours without any lube?
