Go with Mr. 12volt then. It keeps the original PCM software and runs through the TV input. It's actually pretty great. Maybe the resolution could be better, but...you can't win them all.

This is not a Carplay solution for 997.2 (which I am also hoping Porsche offers a PCCM Plus variant eventually) but as cheap, partial (music/podcasts only) solution, I bought this basic BT dongle adapter from eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/203685259504

It was actually only $27 IIRC when I bought it and the sound quality isn't as good as a very similar looking device I added to my 2000 BMW M Roadster, but it does work and is an easy DIY job.

This is for the CDR30 BTW. Not going to work for everyone (if you want BT phone, Carplay, navigation etc...) this doesn't do it.

This post made me realize how many variations of bluetooth solutions I have as I listen to a lot of podcasts and have a range of vintage cars: Porsches official classic PCCM for my 993, Blaupunkt SQR46 in my F355 and E34 M5, this eBay thing for the 997.2 GT3RS, similar but slightly better version for my BMW M Roadster, a Tune2Air dongle in the center console compartment of my V8 Vantage which came with an iPod 30 pin connection option and cable, native wired Carplay or wireless audio/phone bluetooth in my 991.2 GT3 Touring and native wireless Carplay in my 992 and wife's Defender.

I had the joyauto my 991 GR3 and it was working pretty good actually. I’m just a bit on the fence with doing it to an even older generation of PCM. Screen resolution and touch response has not improved. Currently I have an Alpine unit install but will go back to PCM since I prefer that OEM look much more.

Come on Porsche, just release the damn version for the.2 already 😅

You folks should just get the Ali unit. It's cheap, works well and looks even better and you can always sell it and upgrade once the PCCM+ arrives, which I'll bet not many will do, the upgrade that is.

My PCM head is kaput.

I don’t want to spend $3k+ to replace it with an old style PCM.

Do any of the after market solutions replace the entire unit?

Everything I’ve see so far requires the old head to be functional.

My car with the kaput PCM Head is a 2009 911 997.2 4S. The "head" is the part of the unit with the screen and buttons (as opposed to the stuff under the seat and in the console.

Per your request, here's a picture that I borrowed from Suncoast Parts. Mine is blank because I had to remove the fuse. It was rebooting constantly, even when the car was off.

And where was this fuse you removed located?

Have you tried reinstalling the fuse? My Cayenne Turbo was doing that and I totally unplugged it and let it sit then plugged it back in and it fixed that issue.

@RAudi Driver Approximately how long does the AliExpress unit take to boot up when you start the car and then connect to CarPlay? Can it go right into CarPlay if you have your phone on you or does it go to its own boot screen and you have to tap into CarPlay?

I do not have an Ali Express unit so can't speak to that but I'm assuming it's no different than my 2022 Etron or my PCCM+ un my 997.1.

Thatll depend on how long the car has been off for - I cant recall the exact duration but @ times the unit will wake up from sleep mode. I am currently testing the newest 8/256gb QuallComm unit with the fastest processor and the carplay zLink is eons faster and more reliabile then my 2020 4/64gb px6
