Steve, hope you are well brotha. The weiss gold wheels on your 3RS, how much do they change in lighting condition?

I got the 5 lug conversion on my 7.2-3 but thinking about having custom wheels made to the OEM wheel style, was tossing around the idea of the factory silver or weiss gold

I don't think the weiss gold changes all that much, but I'll try to find a few photos for you in different lighting conditions so you can see what I'm talking about. They don't transform like some shades of blue that I'm thinking of in that they always appear fairly light. I do love the weiss gold color though, and it could likely work very well for you too my friend.

Thanks bud, I figured it would be a good color choice to go with the Carrera white!

Default Color

Great thread.

I can totally relate to the impact of color.

Probably the #1 reason I sold my 996 GT3 and acquired one in the color I really wanted. I thought through many ways to satisfy the urge. The wrap definitely came to mind…even considered replacing all the panels with carbon fiber pieces, paint them to the color I wanted and wrap the rest of the car to match! A 2 for one so to speak. Crazy.

Color was a big reason that got me attracted to the cars many many years back. I still remember what it was - it was an orange early car from a Tweeks postcard. And then I was obsessed with that Viper Green 1973 Carrera in Excellence, an issue I still keep to this day.

Well, the adventures continue but not always without drama!

A couple weeks ago I took out my 997.2 3RS for the first time of the year to 'German Car Day' at my local Exotics. The car drove great and looked great that day, and I was of course proud to display it with other fine German automobiles in the center court. After the show, I left and proceeded to take a backroads drive home. At one point about 2.5 miles from my work warehouse location, I decided to give a short burst of acceleration in second and third gear. Upon attempting to slot into fourth I ended up in neutral, and quickly discovered I had no gears available to choose from. No clutch slip, just broken clutch. Miraculously, I managed to drive the car those last 2.5 miles blipping to get it into lower gears and arrived at my warehouse without having to come to a stop. I then pushed the car across the warehouse to its current resting point. Likely verdict is a failed pressure plate, but won't know for certain until disassembly. So, that's a bit of a setback, but also the first time in over 11 years of ownership that I've had any issues at all with the 3RS. I'll take it!

For the next event at Exotics, it turned out to be Classic Car Day. Well, I don't own any true classics but view both my Porsche 911s as modern classics, so of course I wanted to bring one. My rescue Porsche was my 997.1 GT2 of course, and it was only the second time bringing it to the show with its new green vinyl wrap. I received a lot of compliments for the way the car looks, and was happy to talk to people about it and of course let them sit in the car when they asked. It felt great knowing I still had a special Porsche to enjoy when my other one is down, and so I'll call it a win!

I hope to get my clutch situation resolved reasonably soon for the 3RS so that I can take it to more events this year.

Sorry to hear Steve. Pretty common failure in the 3.8RS. Solution is the 4.0 PP/disc (with extra rivets I believe). Of course you could also solve with a Sharky 4.1 lol.
