As driving season in Ohio comes to an end, it's unlikely I'll know for certain if this issue is fixed as I only have one more fill-up before my car will be stored. However, I do have good news. I took my car into my local dealer and told them about the issue. They tried filling up and didn't have any issues so they didn't suggest doing anything, but they did make mention that: "NO FAULTS STORED BUT THERE IS KNOWN ISSUES WITH 997 GT3S AND THE TANK VENT SYSTEM. REFERENCING BULLETIN, WILL REPLACE TANK LEAK MODULE AND REPROGRAM DME". I told them that I wanted this done so they ordered the part which took two days to get in and then installed it.
Diagnosis pump ($495): 958-906-243-A
Fuel neck adapter ($21): 997-201-944-00 This was not needed as I had already had this installed, they likely just didn't look at the fuel neck prior to ordering, which is fine.
$370 in labor, which is 2 hours of labor at my local dealers rate of $185/hour. Some may say that this is expensive, but I was happy to at least have someone take the issue seriously and have documentation from Porsche supporting that there is a known issue with 997 GT3's and this occurring.
I'll keep everyone posted next season if this fixes the issue once and for all.
