Default Tire recommendations

So I’m currently running factory size Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (235/35/19 and 305/30/19) on my 997.2 GT3. They are great tires, but I wish the side wall had more of a “meaty” look, they have too much of the “stretched/ low profile” look for my liking. Any recommendations on different tires or sizes I could run to get more of a side wall?

I just transitioned to Cup 2s in same size. They look much better.

Your options are:
- Cup2
- Advan Apex V601
- Eagle F1 Supercar 3 (big back order)

Personally for what the 4S offers, I am willing to overlook its pedestrian aesthetic. But I have Cup2s on my other wheel set. For stock sizes it’s 4S or Cup2 imo.

While the 4S isn’t ugly- the Cup2 definitely is a bit more rounded and all around a much better looking tire. Those RE MTSP are too good.

I'm switching to Cup2s when my 4S tires are done, they're great for Florida where I am but probably not for most people elsewhere. I guess you could try slightly upsized 4S tires to get rid of the stretch look

Just keep I mind if you buy the Cup's, make sure you get the N0 spec tires as those are the ones with no beaded rim protector. It's that protector that give it that funny look.

For these cars I like Cup 2's. They do not fluctuate on temp nearly as much and I am not driving that much in rainy cold conditions.

I actually ordered PS4S a few years back and thought they were too soft and floaty compared to Cup 2. Tire Rack let me return them for the Cup 2's, I am sure it comes down to personal preference.

Also, as noted above they look better!

I agree with you on the PS4S. They get squirmy under braking on track on a hot day.

Another alternative is the Goodyear SuperCar 3. I have run them on the street and track. We also used them on One Lap of America that requires a 200 treadwear tire and you have to run it for 12 3 lap track sessions, 2 skidpad, a Drapers strip, and an autocross as well as about 3,500 miles of transit over 8 days. If you cord them, you are done.

They are better than Cup 2s in standing water. Like Cup 2s, you probably don't want to run them under 38 F. The downside is they can be difficult to get at certain times. I can't currently get them for my 325/30-19 rears. Went back to Cup 2s for this track season.

235 35 19 are only available in N0 for Cup 2.

If you are looking for a more square sidewall the Michelin Sport Cup 2 N0 spec is what you need.

Never knew this, had to look it up. wonder if the track connect's have beads, which I think the answer would be no. I know the rears are available as non N0's and I've been through the tire shop ordering the wrong tires to save me money. Just a heads up to watch out for it.

I guess when my tires came in many years ago, I only took a look at the rears as that's the bead protector that is an eyesore and noticed that my Cup's that were sitting in the shop had them. Didn't even look at the fronts, as I sent them back for the N0S spec versions. Good to know that info.

Just went for the PS4S yesterday after having PS Cup 2's. So far I like them. Street use only for my RS. I agree the Cup 2 looks better.

That ^^ is what I've been wondering too. I'm a street only guy, and in my climate I'm switching from N0 Cup2's (yes I agree they look better), to the PS4S. For my street & touring use, I also like that the PS4S has 9/32" tread depth, verses the more shallow Cup2 7/32". Most guys running the PS4S for years are saying you will get a LOT more miles out of them too. I also agree with the above, that they feel a little more forgiving due to the sidewall construction differences,... but for the street I am Ok with that. I only got about 7k miles on my last set of Cup2's.

So yea,... I see Matt is running 325/30-19 on his rear Cup2's,... but he has also bought new BBS RE-MTSP rims, so my question to you Matt (since I did not catch it in any of the videos you've made for the give-away work on that RS), did you change the offset on those rims to accept the 325's?? ... EDIT: I also just now realized that the .2 RS used a 325, and my .2 GT3 uses a 305 standard.

I'm wondering if PS4S in a 325/30-19 on stock 997.2 CL rims, would work to square up the sidewall more, and not have it seem so stretched.

I've been running a over-sized PS4S on my 1991 964 Turbo, in a 285/30-18, and it looks great on a 10.5" rim. It definitely helped reduce the stretch look. But I also had to change the offset to ensure it fit perfectly in the wheel well.

I just recently got the 245/325 N0 Cup2 for my .2. They shipped the front 245s in Mercedes spec by accident which has the rim protector and ended up having to reorder the fronts in N0 spec.. Just check it prior to mounting to make sure you get N0s.
