Back in the saddle: SY 997.1 GT3
I go through a lot of cars. Too poor to keep many but I enjoy them all. 😂. Last year I sold my pristine 996GT3 on BAT (I still think the 996gt3 is the most fun and exciting one to drive in terms of feel) and bought a 996 Jahre to hold me over but needed something even more lively. Bought my first GT3 (997.2) in 2010 and sold it to a forum member SSTHO after not appreciating it enough as I couldn’t drive for **** then.
Since then I’ve bought 3 more 997GT3. A 997.1gt3 that had some rattles that annoying me, certain sounds will get me so I sold it after a month and a 997.2gt3 that had 8k miles in basalt but didn’t excite me after some cars I had,I then bought my 996gt3 that was just gorgeous. Rebuilt the lsd and was good to go. Drove it a ton and loved. Market was crazy and car was a bit too pristine for me. I prefer them with some marks or I get Jewish guilt. It was one of my favorite cars to date.
To the point is aesthetically I’ve always preferred the 997.1gt3 over the .2 and I saw this speed yellow one and thought I’d give it another go. I bought it from someone on here about a month ago. No questions asked, send money, send me the car. It’s got tons of paint chips from tracking. 67k miles and scars to show it. Day I received it on first drive and check engine light goes off, front passenger suspension clunking noise, drive funny as then I tpms loaded up one front tire at 46 and others all over the place. Not a great start. We reset it as it end up being a cat cell. Light went back on and had my shop Minicorsa address it. Front shock had play after inspection and needed replacing. Luckily Danny @ Minicorsa had a set of MCS coilovers that he had taken off his old one. Just installed those after a few weeks on stock suspension and they’re fantastic. Dampening is so much better, even with higher spring rates ~ 560/840 they ride better. But the car had a huge booklet of receipts! Wen thru. Saw receipts for guard lsd part.. Car had guards parts rebuilt LSD. Now let me say after owning several 997gt3 (many on here know this) but to me a 997gt3 without one sucks!!! It single handedly changes the whole car. It’s so much more fun. It really connects you with the rear of the car,so much more feel and response. Makes it playful. So this one will stay, for how long I have no idea. But I’m loving it. Set alignment for 3.2/2.8 camber, front toe out, rear toe in. Played around with dampening for road on softer setting and it’s so comfy but also like to really turn in between the alignment and mcs…and on a nice canyon drive can really drive it with a little more old school 996gt3 feel. Will stiffen up for coming track days, looking forward to seeing what kind of times I can put down at Buttonwillow.

Dude, I totally agree with your assessments. 997.1 is the high water mark for me, aesthetically. Period. Everything about the way the look is just perfect...size, proportions, curves (but I love the "feel" of the 996 more than I like the looks of the 7.1). Speed yellow 7.1 is epic spec. congrats!

I never really go up there, I do go out on Malibu drives. Seems like so much craziness up there lately. In palm springs this weekend but taking it to Buttonwillow on the 4th. Seems to be cooling down nicely.
