Track Tire ok?
I have a few track days in a few weeks and didn’t want to burn up my PSC2 because they are on back order. Would you guys still run these Hoosier R7s? I didn’t know how well slicks “aged”
6 years 2 month old, seem ok on wear. I also noticed there are no balance weights on them so I’d have to take them in.

I guess also a different debate if an amateur like myself should be running slicks at all… just realized there is a tire thread. Maybe I can move it.

They should physically support the weight of the car, but will be like rocks. Unless you don't care about wasting a track day or intend to practice car control, I'd run either your michelins or buy a new set of whatevers

LMAO... good enough for me... looks like the R888R is the only thing in stock.

Supercar 3s are good alternatives to cup 2s if you can get them.

Try the Nanking AR-1. It's a 100TW tire that's available in OEM 235/35/19 and 305/30/19 sizes. I started running them on my GT3 this year and I'm favorably impressed. The grip is similar to the NT-01 and it holds up over many heat cycles like the Nittos. I've found the Sport Cup 2 dies off after the first few heat cycles. The Nankings are also much cheaper than the Nittos (which aren't available anyway) or Cup 2's.

Learning to feel slip angle and mechanical grip threshold is much easier / safer with a street tire. They'll "talk to you" when you're reaching grip limits, which is a great learning tool. R7s and the like will just let go without much warning when you've outdriven them or they've reached the end of their life cycle. Tread wear is also easier to read on street tires, which can tell you a lot about car setup and driving style. So, depending on where you are in that "amateur" range, maybe just slap a set of PSS4s on there and drive the **** out of them . . .

How many track days do you have? My general rule of thumb / DE student advice is that if you're still in your first couple of years of tracking, an aggressive street tire has a lot of "teaching" benefits that slicks won't afford.

Finishing up my first set of PS4S on my car(few days left). Been a good learning experience. Having lower limits has given me the confidence to run no TC + SC(to facilitate learning). Still leave with a smile on my face even if Im not going as fast as everyone else. Also been working down my times so there is proof I'm learning things and gaining confidence.
