The REAR, and things that can be accessed. I suppose once the FAL is removed it can be erased or coded out-
so I guess you’d reinstall your repaired unit and code it back in(?)

Great job John.

You’ve found it…. Interestingly it looks like you can operate the compressor, up and down as individual tests from the PIWIS. Looking forward to getting my PIWIS now to see what state my car has been handed back.

Regarding the Power Supply….Yes I have been reading and researching that one. I looked into the PSU that you recommended but it seems to only be 110v AC supply :-(

I do have a large PC PSU that I bought for my FAL tester I made, but I can’t recall what its AMP rating is.

Thanks for all your help. When I get my PIWIS, I think I might dig deep into the FAL operation and also document the PIWIS diagnostic / programming procedure for it (If i am successful) onto the end of the FAL document I wrote. That way at least we all have some hope in maintaining this option on our cars.

You definitely need the power supply, good time as you wait for your PIWIS. The cheapest route is the PC power supply, there are a lot of DIY guides online and RC forums, and also Ham radio supplies. A search for these will keep you busy and since you can fabricate your own things, maybe you'll come up with the perfect solution.
When you get the PIWIS, clear all codes, then do a VAL and Vehicle Handover to document the current state, then see what it takes to program or code the FAL. If you end up having to go into development mode, it will get more difficult. Wish I had learned German myself, I spent 2 months in Europe and in various German cities, almost got lost driving alone one time. Early days of internet, no smart phones in '99. But it was a fantastic time and I got to see the original Porsche Museum .

I'm looking into PSUs now. At the moment quite tempted by this:-

https://www.gys.fr/pdf/datasheet/uk/029071.pdf

It's has charging, Constant Vdc supply for ECU programming (100A rated), PSU, and also has a showroom mode. It is commonly used by Workshops in Europe.

At 100A it will likely be all I need and also help on my Macan. I'll also use it as a PSU for my Quick Jack.

Thanks for the advice on initial tasks with PIWIS. I guess VAL and Handover give you a baseline before you start messing, and thus allow a back out......

I have no excuses, my mother is half German, and I speak "Bisschen Deutsch" !!

The cheapest route is a used Computer psu on eBay, some as cheap as $15
Youtube videos show which areas of the circuit board need soldering of a jumper depending on which one you get

Have you already ordered the PIWIS? Belauto offers a 2 software version package, actually quite a few versions

Yep all ordered yesterday. Went for full system with dual boot 38.250 and 39.5 from memory?

I liked the fact that it included a Head unit locked to prevent upgrading and also date fix.

I’ve had the best luck with Belauto’s locked head units, but heads up… they run an older firmware that requires you to roll your computer’s date back to 2020 in order for the PIWIS software to see the head unit. After the initial connection you set the date back to the actual date for actions like hand over or service light resets.

Yes, with mine I set the date to 2020, then after the VCI recognizes the car and connects, I change the date back to current-
Some of the newer VCIs don't need this anymore

The ones with FW 1.6.6 have licenses good to 2030; we have FW 1.6.4 on ours. No big deal, just a minor annoyance.

Probably well over the top for a DIY garage, but nothing like a good new tool to brighten up a mans day :-)

Got my PIWIS today and within ten minutes I’d reprogrammed in my FAL!!!

Those geniuses at my OPC selected and programmed menu option ‘997 GT3 without lift function’……… Then went on to try and tell me it was programmed in and my FAL was faulty….

The weird thing is the Lift raises the Front of the car, but the module is REAR instead of FRONT

Good show
I recommend clearing all codes and doing a VAL and Vehicle Handover
Anything else you find while surfing please post. There are few GT3 owners with Piwis. As far as I know, not a lot of coding options(passenger window auto Up is impossible)

I cleared all the codes and did a VAL. But I can figure out how to unzip and view it from the PIWIS ?

My system was a complete one and auto boots PIWIS, so i might need to figure out how to drop to the base O/S and unzip the file
