But to make it even stranger, here's a marketplace add, these have 4 ground electrodes and the same part number

Maybe someone else can find a vendor, I did an extensive search-it would be interesting to find out from Bosch why it was discontinued and when will a replacement be available-

I just got the same email from the eBay vendor.

I called the Bosch number and after a long hold spoke to a lady who took my number and had a guy from Bosch in Midvale UT call me. He said the Y5DDC is discontinued, which means BMW E36 owners can't get them either. I pointed out that the Bosch website has 2 new plugs listed for the Mezger GT3 and he said those are wrong, and that he would have them removed from the site.
I then called Auto Atlanta to confirm the ones on their site were in stock. They weren't. The Bosch rep said to get what you can from dealers, these plugs are indeed gone.
To add confusion to this, sunset porsche says part number 999 170 129 90 is not compatible with the Mezger GT3
And some other P dealers with online parts also say the same. They're wrong, I looked it up and the PET says it is indeed part 999 170 129 90.
So I spent hours this afternoon searching for BMW E36 parts, Bosch Y5DDC and the Porsche 999 170 129 90
Ordered a set from a place in Nashville, hours later the seller said it wasn't in stock, returned payment.

After 2 eBay cancellations, I finally found another eBay seller with actual pictures, 999 170 129 90 Porsche boxes. Got them for $110 plus tax and shipping, $123 total. I bet the 2 nearby dealers would be quite a bit more, IF they have them in stock. Very crazy what happened, choices are very limited now. Maybe someone will try the Denso plug, or get the super expensive $115 motorsport plug:

Y5DDC is extinct from what it seems-

if you included your vin with your order, they should check the parts for comparability. Suncoast and Sunset are also two different places.

Here’s the BMW part number as well which is NLA as expected.

12129065004

Maybe some smaller independent shops have some sets laying around.

I did a very extensive search, for hours yesterday. Called Auto Atlanta even though their site said it was in stock. Guy on the phone said indeed they had none. So a trip to the dealer to see in person is what I suggest, or calling before ordering from their site. The Bosch rep said that's it, no more-get what you can find.
I got a set of the Porsche dealer ones. When I did my plug change in 2018 I used the non-dealer Y5DDC like most people do, they were about $8 before they disappeared. Service manual recommends changing the plugs every 4 years but my car is not a daily driver and I don't track-

I saved my original plugs and they just have a healthy tan, people might have to clean their old plugs and use them again until something new is available. I'm sure the Denso plugs will work, but all these years the recommendations have been to stick to Y5DDC plugs.

Here are the dimensions for the Y5DDC.

It would be great if someone had a contact at PCNA or Germany to ask what they think or recommend. I thought the Bosch rep would say a new version would be available, but he said no, they will not make a new one for these cars-

Also, here's a cross reference site, but I consider it dangerous even though there are 19mm reach and 12mm thread diameter specs:

NGK makes a 2 electrode plug with the right dimensions, but the heat range is 8(!!!) instead of 5
It's on their site listed as the GT3 plug. That heat range would worry me:

So the NGK R's heat range 8 is one step colder, not hotter than the Bosch Y5DDC according to this chart:

I found a place that sells the Bosch Y5DDC equivalent made by Brisk-

https://www.magnumtuning.com/en/deta...es-bosch/y5ddc
The problem is, they don't list which model it is, and when you go to the Brisk site, there are many 12mm thread, 19mm reach plug choices.
Using their part finder does not yield the correct results, like most sites the Mezger is left out and the result shows 14mm thread plugs which are for the other 911 engines

Brisk list of plugs, many 12mm/19mm reach options but still can't tell which ones are a direct Y5DDC replacement. Maybe a few of them are, not sure. I wrote them asking which one(s) and let's see what happens-here's a list:
https://www.briskusa.com/Spark_Plug_Assortment

https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/br10zs_spark_plug

And:
https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/br12bfxc_spark_plug

And:
https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/br08zs_spark_plug

These are the flat non protruding/no ground electrode like the NGK Cup/motorsports listed on FVD's site:
https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/br08gs_spark_plug

Another option:
https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/bor10lgs_spark_plug

And:
https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/bor12lgs_spark_plug

Finally found the Brisk cross reference chart, and they list this plug :
https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/br12yc_spark_plug

Here's their cross reference chart:
https://www.briskusa.com/sites/defau...-Reference.pdf

So after frying my head investigating this, according to the Brisk chart on heat range, Bosch 5 is equivalent to Brisk 14, and this model kind of fits the description. I will mark this as probably a good choice:
https://www.briskusa.com/spark_plug/bor14lgs_spark_plug

If someone would like to call the number for Magnumtuning at the top of this post and ask which one is their replacement for Y5DDC, it would be helpful. I'm burnt on this

But, it continues...here's a replacement for the Y5DDC, 360 degree electrode, but no Brisk model listed

Hahah you have really dived into this. I wonder if Bosch will make a new plug to replace it at some point.

Bosch rep told me over the phone there will be no more, they’re extinct.
I just received the last set in original Porsche box from an eBay vendor 😅

When I replaced my plugs in 2018 I used the blue box Bosch Y5DDC like so many on rennlist- around $8 a plug 😂
There’s a slight difference but the ones in the Porsche box cost 3 or 4 times the price-
I’d like to see what the BMW version of the Y5DDC looked like-

What a battle to get these 🤦‍♂️
I paid $123 which included shipping from CA and tax
Most dealers have them for around $27, and as mentioned I’d go in person or call to make sure they do indeed have them-
