Default Repairing / replacing blown airbag from sport seat?

Entertaining purchasing a driver side seat with a blown airbag. Could find a definitive answer on replacement parts needed beside a new airbag and cover. Is this doable diy? Any traps that Im not thinking of?

I’ll add that I believe there could be hidden damage to the actual seat structure depending on how hard of an impact. The seat is an integral part in keeping you safe in the event of an accident.

Someone please correct me if I’m incorrect. This is something I’ve heard in the past.

I wouldn't buy seats that have been in an accident.

Just a seat in and of itself might be safe, but you’d have to consult with the Recaro or Sparco (most likely Recaro as they make most of the OE seats). I wouldn’t risk steering you one way or the other as they’re the Manufacturer and Knowledge Base. Asking one of us is based more on personal preference as we can’t see anything.

Carbon is rigid and flexes to a degree. If the base coat and weave are damaged, that’s obviously a no go. ABS Plastic has a bit more to deform, but probably hard to inspect unless flexed. All observations are under a scope for cracks.

Good luck.

Be curious to see pictures.

Seat bases are a different animal.

I actually bought a different pair last night but see pic attached of the one I was entertaining. Seats looks really good beside the blown airbag but as others have said - the open question is the underlying integrity of the seat. Appreciate the feedback everyone.

sounded like folks advice here were mixing confusion on whether you were buying a carbon LWBS or a Sport seat.

Glad to hear you got a solid seat - assuming its a sport seat

EDIT: It was ME that was confused when I first read the post,... & of course I WROTE the words wrong. My humble apologizes

My advice was for any seat. I think whether a carbon bucket or a standard sport seat, I would prefer a non accident example, or at least a non major accident example. However, I did know Joe was specifically looking at sport seats and not sport buckets, since he currently has sport buckets in his car and is looking to go to sport seats. Just to clarify, I know that wasn't exactly directed at me.

Sheesh, the pointing is laughable. Carbon and ABS come in both forms (airbag/non).

I tell you, this is getting old.

Man, half your guy’s age and the silliness abounds.

YUp, should have been more specific as to what I was trying to do.
