I've toyed with the idea of selling my 7.2 RS over the last year. Not that I don't drive it, but I don't drive it as much as I probably 'should'. Now with values where they are, it's a tough proposition to completely ignore. I fortunately have other fun cars, but the 3.8 (and of course the 4.0) RS are to me the pinnacle of the 911. Kinda just went downhill from there, IMO. If I sold it, I can't think of anything (that I can afford) that could replace it.

Never say never. For enough $ anything can be had. https://www.pca.org/news/porsche-wil...e-off-vehicles

Tough question for sure.

mine is a driver with 19k miles and is really clean as well. I’ve fixed a few things to make it better in my mind and have toyed with selling it, but like the 964T I sold, I do not want to regret it.

plus the huge smile I get every time I am behind the wheel.

I agree with all the sentiments above. Many have said it well.

But for me,... I plan to do the EXACT same thing I did with my 964 Turbo (which I still own),... which is to drive it guilt free for the next 10-15 yrs. I expect that even if I put another 20-30k miles on it in 15 yrs, it will STILL be worth in the neighborhood of what I bought it. Heck, I bought the 964 Turbo for $40k, and it's probably worth $130k now. So why not roll the dice on the 997 GT3 and enjoy it while we can.

Much of this also depends on your age, and how many more years in the working force you plan to have.

I could use the cash more than I could a car that I drive 1-2k miles a year. Seriously. I could break even right now on my purchase (I factor in all maintenance which I did a lot of that wasn't needed but wanted to make the car as good as I could, insurance, storage, etc.). I am not selling though because I really do like the car. Now if someone wanted to offer me some ridiculous number, then sure, I'd sell. But I'd rather make the memories with friends, family and other enthusiasts while I'm able to.

I sat in enough hospitals and doctors offices a few years back as a patient and consistently saw some very sick people. I try and realize that there's more to life than your net worth and cash in the bank. Experiences (whether vacations, drives, talks with enthusiasts, etc.) are important. We're all heading to the same place, so may as well enjoy if you're able to, along the way.
Great point!

Honestly im in the same boat, I think I could get 170 fish for it but I don't see anything under 300k that I'd really look forward to owning. 2000s European supercars are the greatest generation of cars and unless I got a Murcielago which can be a maintenance nightmare I don't think I'd feel whole.

My guess is the Murcielago you'd drive less also. While I consider the GT3RS an extremely focused sports car, it's still an easier car to live with on a day to day basis. Also like you said, maintenance may be an issue.

I would imagine finding these 997’s will only become more difficult in the future. I drive mine as much as I can, I live one time as far as I know. Money can be made, these cars won’t be. That’s a cool idea by Porsche on making new older cars. I’m sure the price is astronomical for that. With all that said. I would sell my car but it would be for a hefty price tag as I love everything about the experience. I personally don’t see them dropping. With how much the newer GTs cost. The 997 could rise some more. We got the 4.0’s over 500k so there’s room to go up for the 3.6-3.8s

The 90's and 2000's is definitely the sweet spot for cars for me as well. Design was original and the driving experience wasn't bogged down by tech. The RS is my most modern fun car. As a new Diablo owner, I would wholeheartedly back your decision to get a Murci The styling is over the top and that sound........oof. As far as maintenance....well, I'm already learning that old Italian stuff is never cheap. And while the cost of parts stings, I wouldn't mind so much if a lot of it was NLA.

^^^+++ I tell myself the same thing. I look at some of the great P cars that have become cult cars as I believe the .1 and .2rs are today and will be twenty+ years from now. Doe anyone really care about the miles on a 73 RS, 9146, 50s speedsters? or if they were tracked, or had overrevs? I think its safe to say, we would all want one today. Sure the super rarer less than 1% cars may be commanding a premium for documented low miles... but the cars that were driven with no mileage concerns are still demanding a very nice price.

Screw the miles - I don't see any uhaul trucks or car transporters following the hearse.

Theres nothing like 997 RS under 300k market. Ive spent so much time researching. 360CS came close but I didnt go that route due to old ferrari maintenance cost.

God... i hope this supercar craze ends so poor folks like myself can buy more cars.
