selling gt3, clear bra yellowing how much would you credit price?
Hi All,
Long time lurker, first time poster - I have learned a lot by lurking on the site but have never had a question that I wasn't able to search and figure out. Until now. So here we go I am throwing this out to the brain trust on Rennlist for some help...
I am in the process of relocating and unfortunately that means that I am going to sell my 2007 997.1 GT3, (I am moving to a state where there is snow and it would drive me nuts to see the car sit in the garage through the winter). The car is in very good shape with low miles, (17,5xx odd miles on it). The car has never been tracked, I live in Southern California and drive the car regularly through the local canyons. I have a book with maintenance receipts as well as stamps in the factory maintenance manual from dealers who maintained the car for earlier owners. All maintenance is up to date, and has been done by Vision Motorsports since I have owned the car, I also just had the annual service done and had them run a DME report showing zero overrevs. Coolant pipes welded, no curb rash on wheels, Clean CarFax...
Hopefully you get the idea, the car is in good condition.
But there is one thing. It has a clear bra on it that covers the front spoiler, hood, and fenders that has yellowed. So I guess it is really a not so clear bra now. It is in good condition, it just has yellowed. I know that is a negative and someone will most likely want to remove it and replace it with a new one.
My question is this: if you were selling the car how much would you reduce the selling price for that?
It's a non-issue if the paint is original. I've had cases where removing clear bra from a repainted area took the paint off, but if paint is original the bra is secondary to the rest of the car.
Based on the description, this car is a gem. You should get very good money for it. The clear film should not be an issue at all. Old films used to yellow after a couple of years.

Is there a thing as humblelisting a car... similar to a humblebrag???
Yellowed or not, it is good that the PPF is there. The buyer will spend $2500-$3000 to replace (with similar coverage) the yellowed PPF with something like XPEL, but (as others have said above) not sure that needs to hit your sale price. I have had to replace the PPF on all three GT3s that I have owned, but given that the PPF was there, the paint on all three was nearly perfect underneath. Nice car, by the way. Good luck with the sale.
most people may not care if it’s yellow as they’ll either replace it or just keep driving it
I’d only have one concern..:if original, you may want to consider removing ASAP as it’s old technology and longer it stays on, potential for adhesive to remove paint should film need to be removed as it yellows even more
Do NOT adjust the price for the clear bra, especially in the current market. If a buyer passes on this car because of a yellow clear bra, it means they were not serious about buying it in the first place.
BTW, my car is extremely similar to yours. I purchased it 7 months ago with 22k (now has 25k...) and a yellow clear bra that I will be replacing in the next few weeks. I removed the old one my self and was very pleased it was there in the first place since the front end of the car looks brand new. If anything, you should be asking for more $$$ because your car has had a clear bra since new (my assumption).
To me yellow film is an indication that it has been there for while and it hasn't been messed with. I actually look at it positively. Taking a clear bra off is not a complicated task if done right.
I'm currently looking for one and I can tell you I would not care if it is yellowing. It is a good thing that the paint has been protected since at least for me, I am a bit OCD about exterior imperfections. Good luck with the sale!
It's a non-issue. removal is around $600-1000 and a new full front PPF runs probably around 2-3k in CA depends on where you do it and quality of the film they use.
Serious buyer shouldn't bat an eye on $3-4k in optional expense
