What is the general consensus on minimum oil temp for the gt3 cars before going over 5k rpm? It takes forever to have the temp go up. I just use the guideline as “measure oil temp” stops saying engine not warm yet anymore. But I heard as high as 180F.

I think anything over 150 degrees is ok to start hammering it.

Whatever you do, don't let your car sit and warm up. 30 seconds then start on your trek.

Yes I typically wait for the needle to get off the 150 mark, but I try and wait till It’s around 175.

I wait until oil is above 180 F before getting into the recreational rev range. There's plenty of grunt below 5k to overtake fast traffic anyway!

Is letting it idle bad? Just drive slow until it warms up?

Shouldn't let the car sit and warm up, unless you're in -40F or something
But, how long is your car taking to warm up, starting with coolant temp gauge? Shouldn't be more than 5 minutes, and I know 'cause I had a bizarre issue and fixed it by replacing a control-valve, the one right next to the disc valve in the transmission:

The car was taking over 15 minutes to warm up, and I knew something was up. Oil was taking even longer.
I figured it out even though Durametric was worthless in diagnosing it.
Otherwise, as long as the car is properly warmed up and oil gauge already moved into the 180 range.

Check oil while driving. Default says something like engine not warmed up yet....I hammer it once that message clears.

Coolant temp is close to 175 in 5min or so.

Oil temp takes a lot longer to get it warm under idling.

Thats what I do lol. It says ok around 155 ish.

Oil temp should take a while, just given that there’s 12 liters of oil in that engine. Coolant temp sounds fine with how long it takes to warm up.

Why shouldn't you let it idle for more than 30 seconds?

I don't usually but there have been times after backing out of the garage I let it sit and idle in the driveway while I go back in the house for something I forgot. .1 GT3

I dont think it will harm the car, rather a good thing have all that oil warm and ready.

But there may be some law against idling in public road due to pollution and etc..

What I've observed is that letting the engine idle for a bit will bring up the coolant temp, but it will not really bring up the oil temp in any reasonable amount of time. To do that you need to drive the car.
