Default .2 Center Cap "Hack"

Really wanted the "GT3" script on my caps, so bought what I thought would be the right set per Suncoast. Not right. Apparently, the GT3 script iteration only works on 991s. I didn't read closely enough.

Anyway, was intent on making them fit, so ruined one by attempting to cut the tab down to fit the .2 opening. No dice. Decided instead that since the only thing really holding them in place is the O-ring, I'd just lop the tabs off altogether. Success. Took a multi-tool to it and sliced that **** right off.

Results are pleasant:

Looks good with the darker center-cap-background for your gold rims & darker CL nut.

I know you said you did not read the suncoast description well enough,... but was that darker color combo your goal & reasoning for buying the 991 cap? Cuz it looks great!!

Did your previous owner switch to colored crest caps?

My 2010 non-RS, with the Titanium color rims, came with a lighter color CL nut & the lighter colored center cap that says GT3.

2nd Question: I was pretty certain the RS cars came center caps that say "RS". Were there several base color options for some of the caps?

The darker color combo and cleaner look was the exact reasoning. Interesting re: your 2010 with the lighter GT3 caps. I've since done some more informed searching, and have not found a "proper" .2 part number for GT3 script caps. Have you popped yours off to see what the internal fastening situation is?

Correct re: RS caps. I have only ever seen those in black, but haven't looked extensively, so can't really answer your question with any confidence.

The correct part number for 997.2 GT3 center caps with the GT3 script logo is 997.361.207.90

That is the silver color for the silver rims. The black rims were a fairly rare option. I am not sure if there was a black center cap for them.

The black "GT3" dust caps are 991 caps. I got mine from Suncoast and installed them on my car. You need to slightly modify the cap as the OP mentioned by shaving off a small plastic tab on the backside in order for them to fit the 997 center locks. It is easy to do with a razor blade.

JR, goal accomplished.

Thnx for part number surlynkid

... interesting that BustaRib's center cap looks lighter than JR's cap with different rim colors. ... yet the caps are probably the same color

Here's my lighter cap color on Titanium rim color...

That's what I found as well. Silver only.

Oh, yes. That looks proper with the dark center / ti rim contrast. And that paint color, too. Lovely.

Ditto on BR's. It's definitely the same cap; just dramatically lighter than the gloss black rims, and also works just as well as ours with the grey body. Contrast and texture is everything with colors. Playing the same game hunting watches . . .

I've got six of the original correct 997.2 GT3 ones still in the sealed packaging if anyone is looking. I moved to 5 lug.

I have black rims with light locks and black center caps

So can one order a replacement 997.2 CL cap or not?
And what color are the ones you have, surlynkid?

That actually looks great against the white, too. You can definitely order a .2 center cap - I think the deal is that if you want the GT3 script, you can only get it in silver. If you want one in black, you have to get a 991 cap and cut the tabs on the back. Which is mega easy if that's the route you want to go. As noted, I used a serious cutting tool, but you could do it with a sturdy razor blade.

Yes you can order the 997.2 GT3 ones. Just use the part number I listed. $57 each at Pelicanparts. I don't know whether they are called titanium or graphite or silver.

Why do mine have a hole in the center, verses the Surlynkid (pic above) does not? (or any of your other ones shown above)

I've always loved a colored crest center cap like JR had on his before the switcheroo - I've got them on my Speedlines .... see em below?

Obviously a functional aero outlet for the air coming in from the tab opening. But seriously, I’ll need the 964 for a while to reveal the answer.

More seriously - older caps had 2 holes for a pronged removal tool. Wonder if that’s the deal with yours. Can’t think of another explanation.

I did chuckle ^^^

the build date on my 2010 was July 2009,... so a fairly early car for the .2 ... so yea, maybe my caps were "from AP's leftover parts bin" Lol
